I had one in 1996 but traded it in for an RC45. Sold that last year but really thinking about trying to get another 95 'blade because it was such a characterful machine. Urban Tiger obviously the only viable colour scheme.

So what are the chances of me finding one that's not been ruined/crashed/otherwise abused.

The other option is to get a mechanically sound example but remove the "chav kit".

My 2004 1000-RR 'blade is a tremendous weapon but just doesn't have the same appeal.

how come you got rid of that beautiful V4?, ive ridden a few of the old Fireblades and i have to say coming from a new one it will ride pretty poorly in comparison, sure its still quick and everything but it wont handle nearly as well or give you the same kind of confidence, i know what you mean about the appeal though i love the original twin headlight fireblades and the first generation R1s in red/white.

The RC was just rotting in the garage hardly being ridden and I really needed the five figure sum at the time for some building work. Bit of a shame really, I'll never have another.

I can't help wondering though that you'll be right and the old blade is best remembered fondly. Perhaps I need to have another go on one before I get too misty eyed

how much did the RC go for just out of interest? its been a bike ive always had a soft spot for along with the Yamaha R7, my first big bike was an RVF 400 and oh the sound of that V4 was great, would love to buy 1 some day, honestly though if you want an old fireblade because you like the bike and are not using it as a performance tool( im guessing you will be keeping the RR4?) then go for it but if you want it as a serious bike i would re consider, thier ride isnt really anything to write home about compared to what your used a CBR600RR will run rings around one- almost as much power but such better handling.

I think I got just shy of 11k. It was bog stock, not quite showroom condition and with about 25k miles. a 1994 L reg.

The old blade would replace the 1000. I'd use it for sunday blasts, bit of commuting, track days, so it'd have to perform.

I don't recall my old one having any real problems apart from a bit of ground clearance from the pegs. Never really got too much in the way of the famous 16" front wheel slappers either. Perhaps I wasn't riding it quick enough.

BTW R7... you've just reminded me. Almost a fable -- never actaully saw one IIRC. Remember reading about them though and really loved the idea, but I've always been a Honda man really. The RC45 went on my list just after my local Honda dealer called me out of the blue to "run in" the first UK RC45 which he was about to get before it was sent out to Superbike magazine for hammering against an RC30 and an NR750.

Did about 1000 miles during the course of a four day weekend and it was sublime.

IIRC, larry down @ PDQ crashed either the first RC30 OR RC45.Even had the clutch cover mounted by Honda.

They are becoming a lot rarer now the urban tiger ones, there still about but most have 25k+ on the clock and been hammered, I tryed looking for one before i brought my yamaha R1 in white/red with 12,000 miles on it. Glad i got the R1 in the end though!

if your going to replace the 1000RR with it and want a very functional bike i wouldnt bother, your current bike is a huge improvement on the old Fireblade, not that its a bad bike......it was great in its day and that was 10 years ago and things have come a long way, i just think you might be a tad dissapointed with the experience, i guess it would be similar to getting rid of your 996 for a 930, by no means is it not a fas and capabale car but the modern variant is just a much improved example.
ive lent my RR6 to someone for the weekend and im worried about it coming back in one piece wish i handt agreed to it now lol.

i saw an R7 at box hill once and also there was one in Tsunami motorcycles in Morden a year or 2 ago, still to this day one of the most beautiful bikes ive ever seen, the RC45 is great too but i think it looks so much nicer with a race fairing and an endurance headlight on it, why they didnt give it the same front end shape of the 400 i dont know.
back onto the Urban Tiger i would seriously ride one before you sell your current bike i think you might be a bit underwhelmed.

Now that I like! Could be an option I suppose. Thing is it was the underlying bike I wanted, the colour was just the cherry on the cake.

Looking at that one on eBay I see it wouldn't take too much to put it back to standard assuming it's been all bolloxed up with dodgy crash repairs etc. But std exhaust, screen, plus other assorted anodised this and chromed that would add a bit to the price.

Good advice though about trying it first that could be a bad mistake! It could be like buying one of those 80s music compilations from Tesco on a whim only to discover that actually most of that music was best remembered...

I ve just finished rebuilding a 1992 RRN (the twin headlight model)in black. obviously iam biased , but its a great bike. Ive made a few changes from standard. Ohlins, Akrapovic system, Mavic rear wheel, ported head. as well as replacing ALL the bearings. I came backfrom france at the weekend, saw 170mph on the clocks and easily kept up with my mates on more modern bikes round the bends. All the bike you will need for the road. Go get one there still pretty cheap, spend a bit improving it and yourll have a fantastic bike. Have a look on www.firebladeriders.co.uk a very good site.
