I want to take the swing arm off my ZX6R trouble is all the stands lift it by the arm itself any ideas?

I've done this in two ways. Firstly I used an engine hoist to lift the back of the bike up attaching the hoist to the rear subframe and secondly (now my engine hoist is in bits) I lifted the back of the bike up on a normal paddock stand, attached a strong strap to the back off the bike, threw it over a roof joist (metal H-beam), attached the other end to the bike and then removed the paddock stand leaving the back end suspended.

In both cases I put a cable tie around the front brake lever to ensure it couldn't roll off. Needless to say you'll have to use your judgement as to wether the subframe can take the weight, the bike won't simply keel over to the side when suspended and whatever you choose to suspend it from can take the weight.

Regards,

Mark

there's some kind of stand that bolts into the frame on each side around the footpegs somewhere, used one on my bike recently when my full system was fitted and i needed as much access as possible to the rear cylinder (it's a vtwin) so couldn't have ANY compression...you can also remove the swing arm at that point.

I have used the technique of putting the bike on the paddock stand, attaching ratchet straps from the rear sub frame to the steel girder in the roof then tightening the straps until the weight just comes off the stand. The stand was then removed giving full access.

I recently had the forks and rear shock off my bike for service/overhaul and had the same problem as my stands both (front & rear) lift on the suspension/swingarm. My Garage roof trusses are too thin to support the weight of a bike for any length of time so I used a selection of concrete blocks & bricks with wood for cushioning under the footpegs and engine.

Didn't look very pretty but held the bike solid as a rock and cost me nothing (I had the building materials left over from building my Garage)

Unfortunately not, the Abba stand locks into the swing arm pivot, so no use for removing the swing arm.

Couple of axle stands under the bottom frame rails works for me, just removed my swingarm due to a seized/snapped chain adjusting bolt and its solid on the stands;
