I am in the process of arranging a meet up with my brother-in-law to do a bit of camping & riding in mid-wales, the reason for mid-wales is that I live on the south coast and he lives in Liverpool, and we want to meet in the middle(ish).

Has anyone any ideas of good riding roads and decent camp sites in mid wales?

Any help appreciated

Get on to the A44 by Worcester and follow it into Midwales,It will take you to Cross Gates which is a great bike Cafe and garage. From there you can go on loads of fantastic roads through loads of towns I cant spell.Try to be at Cross Gates early on a sunday because the speed traps tend to appear later if the weather is good.

Thanks, looks like we may camp around Brecon and head out from there

If you are doing Wales then the'Path of the Cross' is an absolute must - if you have a Garmin GPS I can send you the waypoints.

Just beware of Gruppenfuhrer Bronstrom of the I hate Motorists Alliance and his merry band of Speed Camera operators.

AS mentioned in another thread had a good ride aroun wales yesterday.found a good route from Ledbury to abergeveny (haven't got map handy to see spelling) to builth wells Which isn't far from brecon.and then Newtown .But you can't go wrong all the roads are great just stay away from mertha tydfil and don't be afraid to go down the smaller b roads as they can be the best

Llanidloes to Machynlleth on B4518 - once North of Lyn Cywedog Reservoir you need to take unclassified roads through Dylife and Forge, which will bring you into Machynlleth.

Leave Machynlleth on the A487 for about 1.2 miles and then take the B4404 (heading East) for about 12 miles (This road runs parallel but to the west of the A470) until you reach Mawddwy where you join the A470 for about 1.5 miles before striking out on the 'Path of the Cross'. (Start point = N52 43.174 W3 41.469).

The only 'settlement' vaguely on route is Llanymawddy

The end point (some 14 miles later) is in the vicinity of Llanuwchllyn but you will get the option to escape via the B4403 either East or West, the east option takes you along the Bala Lake.

Just about all of them. The B4405 Bryncrug to the Cross Foxes is bloody wicked. I've ridden it so many times I could do it in my sleep. John

Get Bike magazine - it has a free supplement of great biking roads in the UK and Ireland.
