Hi,
People I would like your comments on what to do.
I currently have a Ducati 748 that I use for track days, now the bike is great and can ride rings around the majority of bikes etc, now here’s the dilemma. Bike is about 6 years old and I think things are going to start going wrong soon and if they do she’s going to cost me a small fortune. I’m seriously considering upgrading to a 749 and if I do can go one of two ways, an 04 track bike that can’t go on the road, cost £3,000 or road legal for £5,000 (this way my dad can go on it when ever he wants) resale on the road legal would surely be better than just the track bike and obviously get to use on the road. Then I thought of an extra £1,500 can get a 999 but is it worth the extra money?
Easy option is just stick with what I’ve got and wait for it to go wrong? I just think it’s going to cost best part of at least £1,500 to sort out if does go wrong, (and I’ve been offered £1,800 for the 748).
HELP I DON’T KNOW WHAT TO DO FOR BEST !!!!!

The press slated the 749 when it came out. Any sport 600 is a better bike than the 749 in most peoples opinion.
I would be inclined to keep the 748 (what exactly do you expect to go wrong?)
If not get a new / nerly new GSXR750, should be similar in price to a nice 999 only better......

I don't think either of those statements are true.
The press slated it's appearance - nothing else IFAIK.
As for a 600 being better - what makes you think that? Have you ridden both? I have and I know which I prefer.
Out of interest, what do you ride - couldn't see it in your profile.?
I have an R1 as an everyday hack. the ducati is just for trackdays. Think i may go for the track 749, do you think i should take 1,800 for my 748 ducati? http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Ducati-748-Trac check this out.

Somewhere there is a Ducati 749s that turns on a euro, doesn’t feel like a ponderous dinosaur on a track and has a lower final drive gearing that allows the motor to pull in every gear until it revs out. Unfortunately it wasn’t with us at circuit Du Luc.

MCN review in 2004. I think thats a slating! Especially as the 2 wheeled press don't seem generaly as critical as the 4 wheel brigade.
