Today I spent a good hour and a half trying on bike helmets from Arai, Shoei, AGV, Shark, HJC, Suomy and Caberg I could not find one that didn't dig in, sit weirdly or that I could do half an Exorcist in .

Does anyone have a small head out there somewhere between S and XS that they have discovered the perfect helmet for that all the others did not suit?

Or am I being too picky? The best one was an Arai Chaser but it pressed against my temples too much. Even the really expensive (£4-500 jobbies) were not comfy.

I do expect them to be tight and of course they will give a bit but to have them all either loose or random bits digging in was weird.

Any advice (or shop suggestions) most welcome. (We went to J&S in Kimberley and they stocked loads.)

Cheers

My Astro-R has swappable padding, so you can tailor the fit to you, to an extent. Did you find out if the Chaser had this feature?

Re. the pressure of the lid on your temples, as you say, it's normal for the fit to feel quite tight initially, since the padding gives a bit in the long term. I'd find someone who was trained by Arai (assuming you go with the Arai) on how to assess the fit of their lids, so you can assess if the pressure will disappear in the long term, or the lid will always be a bad fit, before you part with any money. You certainly shouldn't feel localised pressure. The lid should spread any impact out over a larger area of your bonce, should you have the misfortune to test your lid. Obviously it can't do this very well, if it does not have a close fit everywhere.

Steve.

I have a freakishly-shaped head, possibly because I was dropped a few too many times as a baby, but I digress...

I have a small Arai RX7 with a different set of pads. Arai will provide pads in 5mm increments and I currenly have 40mm cheekpads and, I think, a 10mm top pad and it fits perfectly. With Arai, try one that's as close a fit as possible then have a look at what pads are in it and adjust the sizes accordingly - any Arai retailed should be able to help you get the perfect size.

I found the Arai corsair the only good fit for my head. I am using it in my Kit car as I have no windscreen or roof at the moment but will be looking forward to wearing it when I pass my DAS in Sept
