do you need a headlamp?
Discussion
My mate's just bought a KTM exe 250 enduro. Road legal.
He wants to remove the headlamp and put on a plate (provided with the bike).
Can he ride legally on the road with the plate ie not the lamp? Our local MOTer says it's fine in the day. Seems odd. What if it gets foggy or we have an unexpected eclipse?
Cheers.

you'll find that there is no such thing as a daytime mot.
If your bike is MOT'd and it doesn't have a front light, then they will write on the MOT. Daylight use only.
you can ride a bike on the streets without any lights as long as you have a numberplate and a red reflector on the back of the bike.
I used my Supermoto on the road without any lights for a couple of years, although when you do get stopped by the old bill, they don't have a clue about the laws, so you end up spending 4 hours sat at the side of the road waiting for the traffic police to come and tell them that it's allowed, by which time it's dark and you have to get some one to pick you up.
It's also attracting attention to yourself, and if you have a loud exhaust, small numberplate, slicks on etc, they will just pull you for that instead.
It does make the bike look a lot better though

I think you'll find that you need a working rear break light for road use.
no you don't . i have a tt600 on a daytime only mot you need a speedo an electrically operated horn and a rear relector ,thats all .
the regs applicable are there to allow vintage vehicles to remain on the road ,but equally apply to modern vehicles ,a loophole to be exploited !
