I posted this to a Nurburgring thread a while back just to stir things up

It is true to say that you need larger cohones(sp?) to ride a good time there than in a car (lack of personal protection?)

As I've mentioned before I saw a R1100S at the Nurburg ring a couple of years ago. The ring was closed to recover a Porsche GT3 that had “reversed” into the Armco. When the ring re-opened it was like a Le mans start as bike after bike (‘Blades, R1s, GSXRs, 996s, 998s etc.) and car after car (Porches, Ferraris, Lotus's etc.) went through the barriers as quickly as the barrier arms would move. The first vehicle back was a BMW R1100S which was 45 seconds ahead of the next vehicle (a Porsche) and 55 seconds ahead of the next bike!

Whilst the BIKE is capable of lapping quickly, the fact of the matter is that other than a few local germans and a *FEW* UK riders (who admittedly know the circuit), most bikes do hold the car drivers up. A sportsbike alone does not guarantee a fast lap, or indicate in any way the ability of the rider. I would suggest that to ride the 'Ring w/oi getting in anyone's way, you should either know the track fairly well, or be at least on eof the quicker riders in the inter group on a t/day or quicker. The consequences of getting it wrong on the Ring (including collisions with other vehicles) can be fatal - as several have found out, RIP.

However, Bren from Sliders guesthouse recently did a 7'34" BTG!!! With more to come!
