New Bike ?????
Discussion
I would not go for a 748/9 as a first bike.
They are not as easy to live with as , lets say a CBR 600, SV 650, R6 ect.
You will drop it at some point, and the bill for plastics, levers ect will make you cry.
Seriously get a second hand bike, something like a bandit 600 is ideal, get a few miles under your belt, and some no claims together. Then think about moving into the more exotic bikes.
You will enjoy the whole experience much more. Buying a Duke as a first bike is like having a Ferrari as an only car.
Good luck with it.
Oh all that money you will save can be spent on proper kit, training and trackdays.
NIck.

Seconded. Assuming you manage not to drop it, the servicing is still pricey. I looked at a 600 monster as a first bike and was quoted £350 for a small service and £500 for a big service. A 748 would presumably cost a little more just in time taking fairings on and off. If you pick carefully you can get an awful lot of secondhand bike for your money.
