I have a few stone chips on the wheels of my zx9r, I have the paint now but wondered if any one has touched up stone chips on such wheels before.
I was going to rub down lightly with abrasive in the areas and then touch up with the paint I have. Will this be ok or is it best to put on some primer etc.

cheers

Haven't done bike wheels but I imagine the principal's the same anywhere - Assuming the touch-up you have is a pot for brush use - spray would be overkill for stone chips. What I always do is make sure the sonechip is clean - white spirit or similar - then, using the brush, drip the paint straight into the stone chip. Don't go mad here though. It will look like it's a blob but as it dries it will sink. When dry you'll probably find it site inside the chip - so you can then drip more in. Once you get it to the right level when dry, gently cut it in with a cutting paste or fine wet/dry paper. Then polish it up and Hey Presto ! - a near invisible repair. Obviously, make sure you do each stone chip when it's lying flat - don't blob paint in one the turn the wheel, or the paint will run from the chip down your wheel.

Theres a place in Coventry called Profile7000, the guys there are awesome and will powdercoat your wheels for about £50 each. Well worth if it's they're starting to look tatty, or you want to maximise your resale.
