Sat Nav on a bike.

Hmmm, bought a Garmin quest myself, and don't really rate it. Maybe it's because I can't use it, or can't get the bracket to stay in the same place, I don't know. Would also help if it knew where I lived, worked, or anywhere I wanted to go to....Always seems to fail.
Don't use it anymore!!

I just set up a Tomtom rider for a mate and downloaded all the updates. It is very well made, the power button is integrated onto the rubber strip which runs around the side of the unit so the unit is totally waterproof.
It comes with a load of clamp on type accessories, but because it is is bluetooth only (comes with its own bluetooth receiver and two types of ear piece) you cannot use it as a conventional tomtom i.e. as it doesn't have an internal speaker.
I have just bought a tomtom one which is the cheapest version. I am going to find some way of putting it into a tankbag and view it through the plastic window. You can then run any headset through the 3.5mm jack plug on the bottom of the unit.

One of our group used a TomTom Go on our trip to France earlier this year. He had been using it on one of the suction cup windscreen mounts attached to the inside of the screen on his K1200RS. It was brilliant! It got us easily round Paris and took us to within 200yds of our hotel. (Would have been closer if we had known the building number rather than just the street name.)
It gave us many cross country routes to the places we visited and never got us lost. The best bit was the ‘Rally Navigator’ type advanced warning of the road layout when ‘making progress’. While I would NEVER recommend riding faster than your visibility allows it did give advanced warning of a couple of unexpected tight bends that meant they were taken in a totally controlled fashion rather than the old fashioned combination of heavy braking followed by serious lean angles and muttered requests for divine intervention!
The only thing it didn’t ‘know about’ was the new stretch of autoroute about 10 miles from our hotel that meant that we could knock almost 30 minutes off our return journey time.
Although not the ‘waterproof’ TomTom Rider this system had been used for almost a year in just about all weathers and had never given any problems. It was pretty well sheltered as the screen on the BMW is reasonably large but it was ‘exposed to the elements’. I was impressed enough that I have promised my self one for my next birthday!
Ride safe and enjoy.

I use a street pilot 2610,i had a stretpilot 111 before and its a big improvement.I have a special mounting for the unit for the bike and i wired in a cigar lighter to power the unit.I use it in the uk in the normal route way. But when i go to france i prefer to travel on certain roads, so i plan the route and download it onto the unit.It then works perfectly, it even gets me back on the right road after the "diviation" signs have dissappeared.
