Passed my test yesterday, it rained VERY hard, I couldn’t really see properly and I rode like a complete spoon but came away with only two minors. I’m very pleased with that result and have enjoyed riding without the ‘L’s, I know there just plastic but I feel more like a ‘proper’ biker now.

Well done geezer - great feeling to pass your test

Something really strange happened on my test, I had Sarah Brightman & Andrea Bocelli -- Time to say goodbye going through my head - I still managed to pass!

That was way back in the day - 1999!

Steed of choice will be my FZ600:

But at the moment it looks like this:

Needs the exhaust stud holes re-taping, a new rear shock and a new rear caliper.

So I’m stuck with my 125 for a bit:

Congratulations.

The first time I had ridden in the rain was on the way to the test centre for my test.

That is some project for your first big bike!!

It looks a lot a lot worse than it is I think. The only hard bit is going to be drilling the holes square ready for tapping, the plan is to take it out from M6 to M8 and then put some threaded inserts in so I can use the standard size studs. The rest is just nuts and bolts really. The previous owner (my mate) spent a fortune on an engine rebuild so it runs sweet apart from the blowing from the manifold. It was a running bike when it was wheeled into my basement, I just wanted to get it properly sorted before I started riding it.

Congrats on the pass.
To get the holes right, you could make a simple jig out of some scrap.
In that you are only going to use the jig once, there will be no need for hardened drill guides etc, just a suitably thick chunk of mild steel will do.
Perhaps there enough left of the old threads to use them to locate a home made jig?

Not a bad Idea that. I have got the engine out and sat on the floor blocked up with wood so I can drill vertically down. The drill should naturally follow the existing holes as I’m not taking huge amounts of material off. I think I just need to take my time and make sure I cover the exhaust ports well to stop bits of metal finding there way into the cylinders. Should be ok but will have a look at making a jig.

P.S. Its my birthday today (good week for me)
