Motorbike Direct access test questions?

Looking to do a direct access, rang a training place up and they say i need to do the following

CBT £80
Theory Test £20 ish
4/5 days direct access £100 per day
Test £50


That sound about right?

Also i have a car done a theory test for my car licence do i need to do it again for a bike?

Finally i noticed i can do a full test and be limited to a 125cc for 2 years, is this a cheaper option or is it the same test procedure but just on a smaller bike?

I'm starting the process with my CBT next week down here in Poole. Your costs sound quite good as 4 days DAS for me will be £630. 4/5 days training is for someone with some riding experience a few years ago according to my school.

theory for bike is different to car so yes you need to do it.

If you are 21 or over and take DAS on a bike bigger than 125 then you can ride what you like. If you take it on a 125 then you can ride anything after 2 years. Price exactly the same!

I got my theory this Thursday. then I will be booking my CBT and DAS. I have been quoted 630 for a 5 day DAS course. then add the extra bits.

I’ve just done a DAS course and it was £395 including the test. I had previously done the CBT and had a few months on the road but 3 days of lessons got me through first time.

Prices sound about right but Not sure you will need that long if you have some previous experience.

The guy who I did my lessons with was in a similar situation to you, he dad done his CBT a week before but not touched a bike since. He did three days with me and only failed on silly mistakes due to nerves and not any major riding skill flaws (resting his foot on the brake, failing to look both ways after the emergency stop and indicating right to merge onto a dual carrideway). I think some places are just a bit greedy, the test is not a huge test of riding skill its more about road sense which you should have from driving (I’m presuming by the list of cars in your profile your not a new driver).

I need to sort out my theory. Whats the best route on this regards learning all the stuff... get a highways code and the theory and hazard DVDs from Driving Standards Agancy??

Best way I found for the theory test is buy one of the example CDs off eBay as they have loads of similar questions and quite a few example videos. A quick search for 'theory test motorcycle' throwss up loads of results, when you pass just stick it back on eBay.

You can pass the bike theory with only car knowledge really, there weren't many bike-only questions on my test (things like pillions, tread depth,etc.).

I think I paid about £80 for the CBT, £15/hour lessons (but did them a few hours at a time rather than whole days), and about £60 for the test.

I have a book in the theory test that i have been reading. I got it from amazon. highly recommened

to add also get the high way code. once you finished with it you can throw it at other car/bike drivers whent hey show you they cannot drive

I was supprised at the amount myself. tyre depth, 1.6mmon a car . I did not know 1mm for a bike. their is some that are useful to know

Mine was a bit wary as she broke her kneecap in a scooter accident about 5 years ago in Italy.
This year I went south after Le Mans and picked her up in Venice (she flew there) for a ride through to Slovenia. I think she enjoyed it apart from the speeds I was doing. Thankfully the batteries in my Autocom ran out so I couldn't hear her screaming . I felt her kneeing me in the ribs though

Anyway, I sat my CBT yesterday, cost me £117 all up including fully comp insurance. Will do DAS over the coming 4/5 weeks (one day a week) costing £600, again including additional insurance. I paid the extra as, having not ridden for 15yrs, I had visions of falling off as soon as I sat on a bike.

I needn't have worried right enough, everything went absolutely as well as I could have hoped for.

Add in the £285 I've spent on jacket and boots, the £200-ish I budget for a lid and I'll need gloves and trousers, I reckon about £1500 will get me my licence and some reasonable kit to get me started.

Now all I need is a bike!

It's a slippery slope .... I started off thinking cheap bike, simple kit and bargains to keep the cost down. Two years later I've got summer leathers, winter gear, two helmets, Autocom, and my cheap bike dissappeared after a couple of months and got replaced by the Trumpet which I ordered without even seeing one in the flesh (good choice for me though). Add to that two trips to Europe and the list seems never-ending. Next purchase is some extra training which I never seem to get round to.

She'll come round... maybe. Just keep knawing away at it. A little trip to a pub for lunch. A ride to the Lakes or something like that. Eventually she'll give in
