Was wondering that myself. Do all the big players automatically bring out new models every year? I mean, how many more changes can they make?

Surely the fact that its mirrors are painted gunmetal grey instead of black counts as a major upgrade?

No, but Honda are due a new 600 (pictures already kicking around on t'internet).

Yamaha's R1 is sooooooo old & new bike is rumoured to be underway.

This time last year there were loads of new bikes. It was ace going to look knowing that one of them would be my first bike. This year was hoping for something that would make me consider changing (apart from the current 'blade).

Normally the manufacturers bring out a new model every two to three years. The big changes will be fly by wire throttle on the bikes that don't already have them, slipper clutches as standard on the bikes that also don't already have them, lighter weight and more power.

I wouldn't say the current R1 is soooooo old, it has only been in production for just under three years, but it's due for a revamp as are the other 1 liter bikes..........if you're looking for a new bike to replace your R6 I wouldn't look at a Blade I would seriously consider a K7 GSXR 1000 / 750 or the new R1 especially as you say you do a lot of track work, I would say the Blade would be among the easiest of 1 liter bikes to have as a road bike

Chilli, I am one of the new R1 owners and I commute the same roads into the city as you do (well from the A406/A12 roundabout by Redbridge, in to the City).

Ally Pally is always in January

I've seen photos of the new K7 GSX-R600750. It has slightly different stickers. That's it.

Yeah but Suzuki tend to work on a 4-year development cycle don't they? Take the GSXR1000 for example - 2001 and 2002 were the same, 2003 and 2004 were a slight upgrade. 2005 and 2006 - totally new bike, so you'd expect a few styling changes from the K7/K8 and then a total overhaul in 2009.
Look back through the history books (okay RiDE did an article a while back anf you'll find the 750's the same)

Yamaha does too actually... the 98/99 R1 were the same, 2000/2001 had a different fairing, 2002/2003 was a spruced up model I recall, and the latest one's been 2004/2005, and then they made a bunch of little changes for 2006 didn't they?
