Thieving scum just nicked my beloved ZX12r last night. Not sure why I'm telling you lot but I just wanted to let of some steam I guess.

I bought the bike new in 2000 and being of larger build than your average japanese bike racer, it was, for me, the perfect sports bike. In six years I never quite got used to it's ridiculous performance and it handled superbly on a race track (well a decent one anyway, without too many fiddly bits). It had a full acropovic exhaust and power commander and it looked like an F16 fighter plane in titanium paint. It also took me to 195 mph on one occasion. What an amazing bike and what a huge loss.

I can't quite work out why it was pinched though. It was only worth £3-4k in a legitimate sale, was a 6 year old bike and not a particularly popular model and they don't race them. It was also data tagged, and had a veto evo alarm and is on the heavy side for lifting into a van. Either the alarm didn't go off or I slept through it.

I guess there's no depths the theiving scum won't stoop to. But I guess there's something we can do and that is to never, ever buy a stolen bike or any stolen bike parts or do anything to encourage this appauling epidemic that ruins living in this country. And if you know anyone that has been involved in this pikey crime. Shame on them. It sickens me to think that anyone could think that it's a smart thing to do. I hope they choke on the measly grand or whatever they get for it.

sorry, just gutted.

Bad news. I hate thieving scumbags... Should cut their fingers off (thumbs might be a better idea actually).
Kit car is a possible but there's a steady supply of engines. The guy who supplied my engine has got 3 06 R1's in stock (all legit from salvage). The most used engine has 21 miles on it. Says something about who is buying them maybe.

Sorry to hear of your bad news mate.
Was the bike garaged or taken from the street?
Any locks?
Mine has the same alarm as you but if you are very careful the movement sensor won't activate to sound the alarm.

What area are you in? I know it's a long shot but may be worth providing full details just in case someone was to come across it.

Aawww. God dammit!

We've been having terrible problems with a spate of crime around our way too.

I caught some local pikey's eyeing up my bike outside the house the other day. I don't normally park it outside, but had just got home from work. The bike normally goes straight out of sight in the garage behind a locked and padlocked 6ft solid garden gate which adjoins the side of the property. These arsewipes were cruising up and down the street in a knackered old white Metro, scoping out rear gardens, unlocked gates and garages etc. I calmly hung out of an upstairs window with the old digital camera, taking pics of the little barstewards, their car and their number plate. (Without being clocked I might add).

Promptly called plod, and the local neighbourhood watch busy body, who confirmed that the particular vehicle was being watched by the local feds etc. The pics were much appreciated.

My neighbour (an I.T.guru)and I, set up a couple of webcams. We'll catch the little sods real soon.

The annoying bit is the Police know these tossers are responsible for loads of thefts from garages and gardens locally, but can't act until they catch 'em doing it.

I so don't want to live in this poxy country anymore...

Keeping my bike in the next door neighbours garage for a few days just in case...

I find that the best way is to keep a superbike `undercover` as much as possible...They can`t steal it if they don`t know it`s there...

Ask about.....the scum are probably local and the word might be on the street as to who has a nice new bike.....chin up....New bike time with the insurance...hopefully

Thanks for the show of support. Sadly most bikers experience theft at some point it seems. Bike theft is out of control. It just really annoys me that it's a tolerated crime, or appears to be as far as the fuzz is concerned. They could so easily catch them using a few new R1s hanging around as bait. I bet the scum around here would have a go at it within 3 nights, if not on the first night. Then they could follow them back to their hideout where no doubt my bike and many others would be waiting.

But plod just doesn't seem to care too much about bike crime or maybe it's just so rife they can can only scratch the surface with the available resources. In my case it's not so much the financial value, it's more sentimental. I can't go out and buy another mk1 ZX12 and I don't like the new one as much, it was also a very well cared for example and in mint condition. There are other bikes I like but (Hyabusa's a great bike and there's a new one coming soon) it's just I was happy with the one I got.

Never liked the idea of a tracker much but I'm starting to think if it helps get theives knicked then maybe it's not such a bad thing....

My only advice is don't get complacent about bike crime. Being brutally honest I probably did start getting a bit complacent and thought only new sportsbikes were the main targets.

I think the kit car theory is quite likely. Radical's SR4 is ZX12 powered for one and it's probably their most popular model.
