2 "Firsts" yesterday...I am ready for Moto GP!
Discussion
Went for a blat to Burnham yesterday. Getting onto the A12, the ramp was on a slight decline, but still managed to get the front up , without even trying. I'm sure I've pulled away as fast as that before without incident. Any wayas, that was a good feeling. Shat meself a bit when the front started to wobble, but just relaxed the arms, and it seem ed to take care of itself...and the second..... Managed to see the gear change light come on in 6th! On a private runway, the speedo was showing 153. There's no way my R6 is gonna do the claimed 165 unless it's downhill with a strong tailwind.......even though it's a black one
ps - Kids, this is not big or clever...I had no idea what I was doing.

How much more speed is there in 6th gear as opposed to 5th ? I only ask as I've seen 140+ in 5th with a few more thousand revs available.
Sound like proof to me that the white ones are the fastest

Not really sure! I was just waiting for the light to come on and changing. I think my light was coming on at around 14-14.5k so might have a fair bit more to go. TBH, not asure I need to change it though....It's not often I get to use the runway!!

I saw over 175 (kph, needless to say!!!) on my R1, overseas, but I was catching traffic so eased off. Aprilia was good for 165.
Amazing speeds really, eh? I must admit, once you're basically laying on the tank all tucked up behind the screen.....It doesn't seem "that" fast....Don't get me wrong, I wouldn't wanna come off though!
In my limited experience, a lot of the feel is down to the road surface, and the pucker factor from visibility. I've seen an indicated 155 (on foreign unrestricted roads) on a number of occasions, and its always felt different. The worst was coming down the M11 from Munich Stansted, when my vision was juddering like in Star Wars, so backed right off.
The best was an indicated 172 on the road down to Le Mans this year (naturally via Munich and the autobahn, not on a Route Nationale, obviously. That felt amazing - perfect tarmac, huge visibility, no traffic, and the bike was in the zone.
Talking about that to a ZZR rider on the ferry, and he had run out of clock on the road, but the bike was still pulling beyond an indicated 195.

I wound a CBR600FY all the way out between Barcelona and Valencia a few years ago. Not sure what speed I reached, but I do know it wouldn't go any faster.
Early season going down for the first round of World Superbikes, after a winter of slipping and sliding around Essex in the pi55ing rain. To be presented with a totally deserted motorway, on a bright warm spring morning... Well it would have been rude not to!
I was flat out for long enough to experiment with moving around the bike, trying to tuck all the extermities in and watching the rev counter creep up and down. All a bit silly really because my soft luggage was fluttering itself to destruction while I was trying to tuck my toes in!
Eventually a fairly serious Porsche crept past me (giving me a bit of a surprise) and I was able to follow him with my bike running into the redline in his slipsteam.
Shortly after that, we both got busted, 242kmh on my ticket. (and shouted at in Spanish for three quarters of an hour)
On a lighter note; Chilli I hope you don't spend too long on the A12 going to Burnham?
Some good roads down towards West Mersea, Tolleshunt D'arcy, Goldhanger into Maldon. Then you can take the old Mundon road out of Maldon towards Latchingdon and on to Burnham. The latchingdon to Bradwell road is better than the Burnham road IMHO.
Mark.

I've only ever seen 130ish leptons on mine. Amazingly enough that doesn't seem a whole lot faster than 80 to me. But this was getting dark and the bugs made it look like the starfield simulator screensaver.
Agree with you chilli, the first time the front came up under some vigorous acceleration puckered my brown eye a little...

Cheers Mark. Not familiar with that road yet, but I'll get the route planner out.
Thanks again.
I saw 160 on the Firestorm once and 155 on the BMW. Firestorm still had more revs to go but as I was already ‘on the tank’ it needed a stronger tail wind or slight downhill to go faster. The BMW was on the rev. limiter but got there with me sitting in the normal, almost upright, position. All runs done on my visits to Germany!
