I've been offered a swap for one for my 99 R1,what are they like?I know they won't be quite as hyper as the R1 but how do they perform?I'm just looking for something more upright and went off the CB750 p/x i was offered.

Not tried a 1200, but I had A ZRX1100 back in '97 (they'd been out about 6 months then IIRC) & at the same time a ZX7R.

The ZRX can be made to handle well *up to a point* - which I'd guess would be around 7/10th's of an R1's potential. After this it all goes a bit wrong in a big old heavyweight pogoing fashion! Good fun but ultimately frustrating if you're comparing it to (or in your case coming from) a sportsbike.

The plus side is that they're really comfy at sane speeds - The 11 had a bikini fairing only, the 12 a choice of that or a 1/2 fairing which I guess would be even better but spoil the looks, are great around town thanks to a torquey motor & well hidden weight, have a massive underseat storage bin, and you'll look cool as *uck on it in the right retro garb.

I always wanted to put ZZR cams/akropovic system/flat bars/Lawson rep paintjob on mine but never got around to it. In the end I got frustrated with it & sold up.

I ended up with a speed triple (via a ZX9) which is the bike I'd wanted the ZRX to be. Maybe something similar - ie naked sportsbike - might be more what you're looking for? Don't discount the ZRX 'til you've tried one tho', & if you do make sure the preload is wound up & the (eccentric) chain adjusters are set for the highest ride height or you're gonna be really disappointed with the slow handling.
