Bl**dy boots!

For some reason I thought MX boots would be waterproof.

So off I go and buy a pair of Alpinestar Tech 4.

Lovely & comfy, but I've worn 'em 3 times now. Each time in wet conditions and every time had both boots full of water.

To be fair, I was off road 2 of the times and yesterday the roads were particularly flooded, but am I being unreasonable expecting dry feet?

£10 goretex socks will sort you out, but you might expect boots to be slightly more waterproof than a pair of Green Flash.

All the motorcycle boots I have ever had that are really truly waterproof have been Gore-Tex. All other boots have let in water eventually. I also find that once leather has it’s first real soaking then the water will get through even quicker next time even with re-proofing etc. I will now only buy boots/gloves etc. if they are fitted with Gore-Tex.

I got some lovely Oxstar leather/gortex books. So unbelievably comfortable and waterproof all at the same time!!

I bought a pair of clubman classics and they're rock solid and waterproof. I reckon you could stick lego all over them if you wanted that mental over the top look sidi seemed to be going with.

Another vote for Altberg! Cant beat them, warm, comfy and not a drop of water in 40 odd thousand miles. And you dont look an idiot as there is no plastic crap all over them!

It's not that the water soaks in, as much as pours in.

Problem with MX boots is they don't exactly 'zip' up, more fold over & 'clip' down. Water seems to pour in the side just above the ankle.

Should I expect more?

Sealskinz Socks will keep your feet warm and dry but hand-wash only and dry very carefully. On The other side Trials Boots do tend to be a bit more waterproof especially those that come with inner socks.

I don't want road boots, I was just bothered about the lack of waterproofing in the Tech 4's and wondered if all MX boots are like this.

I have Tech 8s and they aren't waterproof. MotoX boots tend not to be as they need to be very breathable....it gets very very hot while racing. Unless a boot says it's waterproof, don't expect it to be. Hope that helps. MotoX boots are all about protection and comfort.

Mate, go buy yourself some Seal Skinz waterproof socks.....I used to wear them with Tech 6's and they are 100% waterfproof unlike the boots
