V-2s from Germany....come in peace [this time..8-)]
Discussion
Hello Bikers and Bike Fanz !
Swords to plowshares ? Hmmmmm......boring.
Messerschmitts to motorcycles ? YESS, that´s more like it !!
I don´t know if this has been posted before,
checked "Gunbus" in search, found nothing, so ere I go :
There is a small workshop in germany specializing in restoring Porsches
and pre-war airplanes.
About one year ago, they decided to produce a vehicle
of their own design.
With a V 2 engine of 6.700 cc
(410 cu.i.), and Boeing 767 tires...
!!
Here is a picture of the crankshaft, dwarfing the same Harley-Davidson part :

If you want to see more about this project :
www.leonhardtweb.de/english/gunbus/ , there is als a "pictures" section.
The Leonhardt company took a 9-cylinder star engine of a Messerschmitt fighter airplane,
and they seem to have access to more engines,
as a small number of "Gunbus" bikes is to be produced.
And, yes, they want to get it approved by the strict german
TÜV regulations,
this monster will get a license plate and will be street legal.
I can´t wait to have a sound file of that thumper......
Maybe next year already.
I don´t know exactly where they got the name from,
a quick net search showed that there was a Vickers WW1 airplane called Gunbus,
and also a UK movie with includes a (fictional)very large german steel zeppelin,
"the biggest sky battleship ever".
Hmmm....seems that Mr. Leonhardt saw that flick, ey ?
Have fun reading and stay upright riding,
Benni

Size matters ?
No, I am not on their payroll,
but the GUNBUS builders have new pictures on their site,
as the rolling chassis is complete now:
www.leonhardtweb.de/img/sittinggunthn.jpg
I still can´t believe the sheer dimensions of the bike,
and once that engine is fired up, I want a soundfile...
And I also can´t believe that no one here has an opinion about it,
or is there already a thread for GUNBUS that I did not find yet ?
Benni
And I did not find out yet how to post a picture directly, sorry.
