I've seen a few bikes with what look like normal disc locks (front) but have a plastic "cord" attached which goes over the handlebars....What's this for?

Cheers.

Or in my case 11 weeks in plaster with a fractured wrist and a broken caliper mountyikes After that I always put the lock on behind the caliper so I couldn't get any momentum up if I forgot again (Although, oddly enough, that was the last time I did forgethehe)

This takes me back 30 years.
I used to park a Honda CX500 outside the main Police Station in Batley, West Yorks.
I used to put a padlock through the holes in the disc mounting, as extra security.
One day, I forgot it was there and dropped the bike.
I also busted the lock, which now refused to open.
I nipped over to the engineering department at nearby Fox's Biscuits and borrowed a hacksaw and several blades.
Believe it or not, I spent an hour hacksawing through the lock, with loads of Policemen going in and out of their station.
Not a soul said a single word to me. I was amazed. Surely somebody might have thought I was pinching it?

Hmmm. A CX500?? Maybe not.
