How big do your wheels have to be to be nodded/waved at by other bikers.
I've ridden bikes & scooters for 20 years & find it a bit strange that last week I used the bike for work (Cagiva W16) & was waved at by the same guy all week. Today I used my scooter (1957 Vespa),passed a few bikes & they looked at me like I was something on the bottom of their shoe. So now I don't wave at anyone. Bah Humbug.
Surely you lot are not all miserable b*stards that have watched
Quadrophenia once & hate all 'hairdryers'.argue

I was talking to a mate about this at the weekend - you'd think that riding a bike would give a higher sense of kinship with scooter riders if anything.

It doesn't though, I ing hate the bastards!! :GRRRR: biglaugh

How could you tell that when they were wearing lids? Did you expect this to happen and therefore assume it did?

I'll wave at who I like and if I end up waving at absolutely everyone I may as well not bother for all the meaning it has.

I do expect it to happen because it normally does. Most of my mates who own scooters have also owned bikes & find it the same. It's either the sh*t on my shoe look or the I can't see you & can therefore avoid waving at the mod puff.

See all you greasers on Brighton beach punch

Most scooter riders are scum of the earth!!! I've lost count the amount of times I've been cut up or had my bike scatched by a scooterist!! banghead Most scooter riders are your average cage driver commuting to work who have no understanding of what it is to be a biker. Unfortunately you can't tell from one scooter rider to another whether or not they're proper bikers!! So I just lump them all into the same bin !! thumbup

Have to agree...Since I had to remove a scooter from the side of my bike in a public bike park...bo!!ox to them.
It was not an isolated incident.....some of them have no regard for my property.

I know this is wrong of me but I asume every scooter owner is 16 and rides as a way of getting from A to B (badly) - i.e. they're not into biking... I don't wave at them as I notice they never wave at me so just assume scooters are not the same as us harcore bikers

This is just like watching the 911 owners take a pop at Boxster and Cayman owners

From what I observe on a daily basis, most scooterists are bottom of the list in terms of their courtesy towards other road users. You're reaping the rewards of their work.

You'd imagine that bikers would be able to differentiate between a scooter and a moped and not imply that all scooter riders are 16 year old pizza delivery boys or chavs.

Virtually none of the scooters I see are of ridden by 16 year olds in the City. They're the metro' types riding a Vespa or similar wearing one of those tarty momo (sp? ) lids. Their roadcraft is no better despite their age.

Most bikers, including myself (If I'm allowed to be one) ride with the visor open in heavy traffic.

Just to make it clear, I'm talking about scooters. Not 50cc plastic chickenchasers.

p.s I did'nt think I'd get a lot of sympathy, but.. 'Scum of the Earth'!

I'm not perfect here as i dont tend to acknowledge the 16 year olds on their scooters when they're hooning around.
However if i see a proper vespa or something of that ilk i'll give a courtesy nod.
To be fair, not many scooter riders nod back if i do..

And whilst on that point i get alot more acknowledgement if im on my TLR than i do on my GPZ500.. so it works on all levels i think..

i used to be a 16 year old "scum of the earth" plastic chickenchaser rider, and I rode in all weathers, all year round and did 10,000 miles a year, which i bet is a hell of a lot more than most sunday bikers!

i also worked for hein gericke, so i was involved with 'proper' bikes and got to meet quite a few racers etc. so not all 16 year olds are the same!

i use to have a few nods and waves, but i wore quite decent kit which maybe marked me out as a more 'serious' scooter rider...

FWIW, my scooter had brembo brakes, USD forks, mid-mounted fuel tank for better stability, and could do 70mph with help from an uprated carb and exhaust!

I don't. Regardless, all you can see is the eyes I think you're reading too much in to things. You're also looking to provoke a reaction and also, as a result, you're being wound up. The fact that you started a thread over something as banal as why bikers don't wave at you just confirms it.

Personally I think scooters are great but I still wouldn't nod at one as like it or not I assume that the rider is just riding around on cheap transport rather than someone who actually cares. If, however, you were riding a classic or were festooned with mirrors and so on I'd certainly give you a nod despite the fact that I'd be about as likely to get a nod back as I would from a Harley owner.

Mark

Sorry if it came over as banal. It's hard to sound tongue in cheek on here & I'm not getting wound up at all. The scooter/bike banter will go on forever. As a rider of both I was just pointing out the bike snobbery that I have come across, although having read this lot it's not just reserved for scooters. Maybe Harley owners are more friendly........paperbag

I used to ride a Honda ST 70 DAX, by the way, and with the right amount of tuning,
and a proper (cutoff SS50) exhaust, it even was nodded, but not waved at.
And cursed at a lot, but that was half the fun being 17, wasn´t it ?
