Dare I mention 'Classic Bikes' on here?

Well a Commando would certainly make an excellent first bike. Cheep classic insurance, easy to maintain yourself, cheep and plentiful spares. You can pick up a really nice one for about 3k and it will still be worth that in 5 years time!
It wouldn't be anything like as quick as a modern Jap 600 but they're not short of grunt, more than capable of long distance trips, and the sound.....mmmmmmmmmmmm!
Go for it!

I have been to the classic bike show in Shepton Mallett every year, and to the same event when it was held at the watershed in Bristol before that. Great show, great atmosphere, great bikes, great auto jumble!
I have had bikes on display down there for the last few years but am taking a break this year so I can spend more time wandering around. One of the disadvantages of displaying a bike down there is it takes up Friday evening, all day Saturday and all day Sunday and still you don't get to see everything!

Yes indeed tasty machines! Have you got back into biking since the sickening loss of your Duke?
In the process right now......about to take the plunge for a Hardly Rideable....
But, I'll probably add a second bike within a few years and head down the classic route again with a Super Rocket or an RGS rep.
Hi, I regularly ride old Brit bikes, some from the 1920's (normally a 1928 AJS K8), although I also scrounge my Dad's 1963 Velocette Venom when I can. I've got a late 60's Triton project that I really should get going as well.
I always used to thump about on my 67 125cc Motobi (buit by the Benelli brothers) on L plates when all my mates were screaming about on their Aprilia's etc. Nothing like standing out from the crowd!! Still got it- great looking litle bike.
I love the fact that people naturally assume I'm gonna be an old gadger because I'm riding an old bike- but there's plenty of younger people getting into the older stuff now.
My Brothers the Editor of one of the big classic monthly's, so you can guess what the conversations like when we all get together!

Some very nice bikes there guys. There really is something special about riding an old classic, it seems to bring a special smile to the face that very few modern machines can manage. Mind you I wouldn't want to rely on one for commuting, I need to keep my job!
