On a related note, has anyone ever been, what's the scoop on booking and is anyone going next year. It's on my list of stuff to do before it's banned and it's the centenary next year.
Steve.

I went in 99, took the missus and a mate (who rides like Doohan) and you just have to go, nothing you've ever done will come close to being there, especially Mad Sunday. I had a ball, nothing like going through Veranda cranked over, cop videoing you (waved back) and then blasting it back Creg Ny Baa! Saw 160+ on the clock several times. Was a bit off putting though, over breakfast we heard '3 dead already'!
We stayed in a hotel and they like full week bookings. The weekend bookings on the Steam (Costa) Packet are always booked up well in advance, so you kinda get screwed one way or another. Or you're camping
And take watrerproofs

Went in ’98 and thoroughly enjoyed myself. You will see the best riding ever and the worst riding ever, all within the space of a couple of minutes and none of it from the actual competitors! Do keep your wits about you as while it is great fun there are some real idiots who WILL have an accident (it really is only a matter of time!) and you don’t want to be near them when it happens.
The racing is great to watch and it’s well worth getting up early to get a good location on the mountain (if the weather is good) for at least one of the days. You’ll be stuck there for most of the day but pack a few sarnies and you’ll have a great day.
I had to stay for work for a couple of days directly after the TT and had the best time of all on the Monday and Tuesday. Having enjoyed the fun and excitement of the week before it was great to then have almost totally empty roads, especially across the Mountain, where I could really stretch the bikes legs without fear of some idiot over-cooking things and taking me out.

>99% of my miles are as a commuter, so stick me on a twistier open road and compared to most I'm sure I'll be captain slow. I have nothing to prove as I already know most if not all folks will be quicker than me, I just want to see the racing close up and soak up the atmosphere. Do you get a similar group of lifers as you do at Le Mans - a group of folks who've been going there for so many years that the racing is incidental and the just wonder what the noise is in the background? Also, how bad is camping at the TT? It never bothers me at LM each year, but the climate is somewhat better.

Wow - this guy is seriously fast! Got to take massive amounts of bravery to ride this fast on a road which is normaly used for the public... If you have an off at the track, you generally slide into the gravel - if you have an off at the TT you end up meeting with a semi-detached! One small mistake and it could be curtains at these type of speeds... Great to watch though, thanks for posting.
