Used to have an action camera 1000 (ATC-1000) which was good because it recorded direct to a memory card but the quality was poor and the sound was really bad. Basically I ride with a couple of friends and we hope to record some of our ride outs next year.

Anybody able to recommend an alternative? I would prefer one that records direct to a memory card rather than a camcorder.

Any thoughts - I want to get my wife to buy me one for Christmas!

Thanks all... Rob.

Not sure about memory card but check these guys out. www.rfconcepts.co.uk/helmet_cameras.htm I bought Package 5. Also try these guys www.dogcamsport.co.uk/

I also bnought the Stereo Zorst Mic from www.dogcamsport.co.uk/helmet_camera_mics.htm#zorst It really gives a great sound of v-twins. The standard Mic sounds a little to harsh as you'll hear in the clip below.

I have one from them and it works a treat i.e. www.youtube.com/watch?v=IK8k0PPDbbs Quality has been reduced for the web but still pretty good.

Nice links mate.

I'm surprised how cheap it is, it's tempting to get one just for a play. The quality is much better than most "camcorder strapped to me bonce" solutions and I'm impressed by the sound quality.

Shame about your "other" vid.....

My OH wants a camera for christmas for on his bike and car and that RF Concepts website has confused me so much!

With the bullet cams do you need a video camera as well?

Would the 4.3mm Complete pack 5 be a good one to go for, or for the extra couple of quid the Camera 5 EX?

I saw this at the kart show last weekend, not tried one myself yet, but it sounds like the sort of thing you are looking for. 480 lines res and 25 f/sec. Price worked out to about 750 euro IIRC.

If you are going to film your mates on the road, best make up a film of everyone riding around like model citizens first. Then if the worst does happen and the road ends up littered with bits of plastic, you swap out the "wheelie fest" tape before the BiB show up!

Looks like the ATC2000 has been released, I've asked Santa for one!

www.actioncameras.co.uk/ATC-2000.html

Expect some footage next year (or on the next dry day after Christmas!). NOTE: MUST NOT RECORD THE INSIDE OF ANY HEDGES.

A question. Do you still need to plug this into a Camcorder? I only ask as a) I'm clueless about these things and b) it states it has an SD card???

Nick, it's all you need to record 60 minutes of video using a 2GB SD Card. No need for a CamCorder!!

shot2bits: for comparison do you know how many TV lines tis would equate to?

Yep, it's like a plane crash. You do need a camcorder. I went for a DV tape version as when on Euro trips, I can shoot over an hours footage per day & it's easy to swap tapes. The camcorder needs a an AV input, like S-Video.

This looks like it rocks as a single unit. Pitty ther camera resolution is only at 480TVL. If the resolution was higher I would consider one. The current solution I use is a little cumbersome and fidley. It will even take my external mic which sits under the seat to get those wonderful v-twin tones.

Goes up to 480p (standard TV definition).

Three selectable resolutions (640x480, 320x240, 160x120)
- Video clip file format: AVI - 640x480, 320x240, 160x120

And no camcorder is required - that's the main reason I went for this one...
