new idea wizzin round in bonce.............
100 club members , they choose which 20 bikes they want to ride, mix of bikes , new, classics, dirt/supermoto, they have 20 days riding per annum for £2000, four clubs based nw, ne, se, sw , all fully comp, maintained etc, one club member wins bike of his choice at crimbo get together (from current years stock, but excl classics),
ok £2000 not cheap, but you can ride ducati 1098, mv, blade, tourer for weekend away with missus (or girlfriend if wife unwilling), have a bike at tt 2007 for the week, go trail riding with mates in winter, no depreciation and new bikes replaced every year, club trips to milan shows to pick next years bikes, classic collection grows year on year, if we want to build a special we do!
any comments/suggestions welcome.
club runs from april to april and first to regester interest has first dibs on dates

please note this not spam ...............but could be

Think you'd have to group the bikes like they do on the car clubs and limit the 'best bikes' use. Then the fun factor starts to go.

Insurance would be quite expensive I reccon - for someone like me, it would be a winner - no bike yet - would love to try a few bikes...but then I've only passed and would you/your insurere like letting me lose on your MV, 1098, Gixer thou'?

Also how many people would want to 'rent' a 1098 then a triumph boniville then a dirt bike? I could be very wrong, but would they shell out 2k for that priveledge?

A lot of these things work for cars because people want to drive what they realistically will never be able to afford...Bikes, even dukes and Mv's are reasonably affordable.

As I say, would work for me at present, but I guess there are not that many "me's" about.

Just my 2p.

the beauty of this scheme is that all the bikes are what the members want to ride, aimed at over 40's , so that classic bikes tend to be from seventies onwards as opposed to 1935 rudge ulsters, so could be elsies, kettles, z1s, kwak triples, jota, le mans, dukes, later classics incl bimotas, rc30, 916, vmax, and for serious wrinklies vincent, venom thruxton, bonnie, the dirt bikes/motos would be new 2007 wr450, new road bikes 1098, r1, blade, and tourers 1200gs, bm tourer etc, classics collection to be built up when suitable good uns come up

I think the price will put a lot of people off (I understand the thinking that arrives at that price) but my thinking would be …..

I can either pay £2000 to get 20 days on a club bike or I can get a pretty reasonable bike that’s totally mine for around £2000. I know the bike I get won’t be the latest model but it will still have better performance than I can use in almost all conditions and I will be able to use it any time I want. I can then go to the dealers and blag test rides on the latest models just to prove that while they are better than mine, they’re not that much better. Also, assuming I don’t prang my bike, it will still be worth over £1000 after a year and so is substantially cheaper.

As you are aiming for the 40+ market most of these will either already have a bike in the same model grouping as those they would want to ride from the club, or would be too scared/sensible/nagged to get a good 20 days use of the latest hyper-sports bike. Either way, £2000 then becomes a lot of money to justify to self/bank manager/’er in doors for something you’re not going to ‘really use’.

As has already been said, this sort of club works with cars because the money you pay per year will never buy you anything like the type of car you will get from the club. With a bike club, the cost per year will actually purchase you the very bike that was the ‘must have’ in the club just a few years before.

I don’t think such a scheme would be viable at the price that most would likely be willing to pay and I don’t think many bikers would be willing to pay the price needed to make the scheme viable. Sorry, just my opinion.

ok, understand your reply, but £2000 bike, probably £200 insurance, £40 tax, £100 tyres/chain sprocket, £150 mot/service, so £500 per annum running costs for ten year old cbr600 plus nothing special (know from experience of running both TRX 850 and CRF250X)as probably spend as much on dirt bike as go through two back tyres, two sets of pads, set of chain and sprockets so on and so forth but bearing in mind the dirt wrs will be set up with guards/mousses, and also have supermoto wheels , looking to organise guided ride-outs for beginners included as part of the service

tbh I can't quite understand the thinking that gets to that price: £2000p.a. for 20 days riding = 18 guys per bike = £36,000 per bike? I can get myself a few bikes fully maintained for that kind of money, ta.

Put another way: buy six bikes for a "club", sort out maintenance, servicing & administration for "the club" and pocket £200,000. Hmmm, I could do that.

Here chaps, I have had this most excellent of ideas....

hmmm £100 per day to ride a ducati/mv/jota/916/h2 750/r1200gs/ plus in winter ride with 4/5 mates on dirt bikes, planning 20 bikes to start and dates to suit members not a week in january/november, also can arrange delivery of bikes to tt so members just fly in and collect their bike for however long they want..............
yes your thinking sounds quite profitable, but may just struggle to find interested folk

Yesterday at Ally pally there was a club of this sort in operation.

1800 to join, 1750/year for 40 days riding (I think). Or to look at it this way, three and a half grand for the first year riding.

Yes I know you get a selection of bikes to ride, but that covers the depreciation, insurance and running costs on your own bike.

Hence I took one look and quickly re-affirmed my gaze to the blonde in the basque instead.

Saw this stand too - friend of mine got collared by one of the sales staff (caught him gloating over the MV)...possibly a good idea in theory & if you have money to burn, live in the middle of town without a garage...however you can guarantee that on sunny summer weekends unless you book way in advance you're unlikely to get a bike. Plus i'd imagine most keen bikers with money to burn would rather own the thing

I'm sure there is a market for it, I am just not sure the kind of people that would be interested in it.

Personally, if I wanted a 1098 for a day I'd go to my local dealer & borrow one.
