Ineteresting read if anybody wants to pick up a copy. I used to own a 111R (quicker version) so it's good to understand where the bike is quicker and where the car is quicker in the corners. As the conclusion states, the bike rider had a go in the car and ended up only a few seconds off the pace. Just goes to show how much more of a challenger riding a bike well is - basically way more involving and IMO way more fun!

I read the article, too. Having owned an Elise S1, Elise S2 and 340R, I found it reasonably interesting but no real surprises in terms of the outcome or the straight-line vs cornering speed differential.

Agreed. I think it's always interesting to read about bike vs car but it at the end of the day they are different experiences. Having spent £30K on a 111R, for me, owning a bike is so much more exciting on every level. There's riding with mates and not having to worry about the traffic, there's learning how to position yourself, learning how to corner and the fact I have a missile for £8K with low cost of ownership - it's a challenge. Everybody is different - I still love cars but find bikes so much more fun. Also with regards to the bike vs car thing, it's good to see more affordable cars put up against bikes (Elise) - normally the cars are circa £100K put up against a £6 or £7K standard bike. Remember the 5th gear shoot out - bike vs a 911? Interesting that the bike was stock and they hadn't even changed the suspension settings... The rider did say with a bit of a set-up on the bike, he could have been more competetive.

This is the crux of the matter for me. I see, over on the lotus forum, that the lap times of bikes and cars are being disected in minute detail and the usual power ranger bollox is being trotted out. Honestly, what is the point? Enjoy them both for what they are.

Steve.

I wouldn't go back to the 340R after the switch to bikes. That says something

Have to agree. I even make excuses to go and get something from the shops just to go out for a spin on the bike. Every trip, short or long, is a smile fest!!

I agree with your sentiments. I could suffer a more boring car but I wouldn't be without a bike.

I find that a blast in a car can be great until you catch up with anything more than light traffic - then it is fun over. On a bike you can be past them in no time and resuming your fun.

Precisely. The 340R would have been so much more entertaining if I could have guaranteed that all roads would be empty whilst I was driving it

I had a 111s before i caught the biking bug

i admit the elise was great fun when driven hard, but now just jumping in the saddle at any speed is great.....plus your can't get your knee down in an elise!!(This is my aim for next year, on the bike that is)

Smiles per mile?.... i'd would pick the bike everytime.

Ps What's happening with your leathers Rawwr?

I have a 111R and a couple of bikes.

After the test ride in the Elise (by accident on the way to tescos) I fell in love as it was the closest a reasonably priced, road going, evey day car had come to riding my bike in terms of fun and giggle factor.

I am now in the situation where I have too many vehicles and economicaly it doesnt make sense and sadly the Elise is at the top of the list if I do get rid of anything. Don't get me wrong it is a seriously good and amazing fun car but if it is a case of car or bike the bike wins every time, nothing comes close

Speak to Hobo. He sold a T350 and now has an R6 and a clear opinion over which is more fun (and soooo much cheaper too).
