A sign has appeared next to the parking bay I use, saying that the bay may be suspended at any time. I guess that's a done deal then. What's the latest on the bikle charging scheme? Why are they now trying to get the bikes off the streets.....Not sure I can handle getting back on the train.
Gutted.

They don't want to concede that bikes reduce congestion because it defeats their intentions to tax you merely for travelling - by whatever means.
Cynical? Moi?

Exactly......
Congestion charges, green levy's, road pricing etc...whatever they call it, it's just a way of smoke screening a method of screwing you for more money........
They know everyone has to travel to work, so it's an easy target.
I suspect it will be a permit - or online payable charge like the CC. Defintely happening though...

I spent Christmas week in Paris. Amazing. Tube system was open on Christmas day, so was the local baker, fishmonger and butcher. Tube fares are a real incentive to take the train. People were universally polite, kind and helpful. Bike parking is apparently a real doddle.
Bikes seem to park anywhere, except where you see a specific prohibition. Pavement parking is the norm. The city seems to function reasonably well, although they might benefit from fewer private cars. In the whole of London's West End there are huge tracts of wasted space where free motorcycle parking would affect no one. I feel disgruntled. I hardly ever bother taking the bike anyway, as it's so awful finding somewhere to leave it.
Yesterday I walked past Westminster City Hall, opposite Army & Navy in Victoria Street. I noticed the building has the benefit of an underground car park. I wonder whether councillors and senior officers have use of it. I guess they can all afford to be cavelier anyway, and expect transport costs can often be claimed on expenses. It's a topsey turvey old set of priorities they have over in Westminsterville.
I remember when you could buy a pint and a Westminster cemetary and still have change from a pound.

ing hell - I can't understand how they could ever incorporate bikes into the congestion charge. Unless of course we're all 'carbon criminals'...
