Not fast enough!
Discussion
Ergh I didn't think the day would come...
Obviously the SV650S isn't that quick in the bike world, but has always been enough for me. However came onto a DC this morning changed into second right into the sweet spot and pinned the throttle to pass 3 lorries.
And then it felt like i was just sat there... speed building fairly quick but just not fast enough. It was almost painful. Like when you're at work and think its time to go home, but look at the clock and you've got another hour and a half to go!!
I need to remind myself to get better at corners before trading up!!!

I know what you mean. Just traded up to a GSXR600 K6 having spent 3 happy years on my SV. The increase in acceleration is incredible (yes I know there are faster bikes out there, but SV to GSXR is huge).
You might not need to work on your technique as much as you think. I thought my SV was much much better that my skills would ever be, however, I spent a day on different bike (K1200R, R1, etc), then when I got back on my SV I realised I was nearer it's limit than I had thought. So traded up.
That said, I could still corner quicker on the SV than my GSXR, but I guess I'll get used to it.

You get a bigger fright when you have a ZX12r in for a service, then get a loan of an SV650,'then' try and pass lorries!!I just pulled out, pinned the throttle thinking the bike was going to take me to the gap up ahead i wanted,eh no,got the fright of my life and actually slowed down and went back to where i was.
I made the mistake of buying a new SV650S after I got trashed off my then ZX6R in 2000 by an idiotic driver. Having just sold my car the day before I went down the bike shop that weekend and ordered it as I needed a bike to get to work.
While the SV is a fantastic bike round town, it is made to a cheap budget (brakes and suspension were to put it frankly p*ss poor!) and out of town needed to be spanked to get it to go. It was hassle to maintain lepton speed in a straight line compared to the zx6 which would sit there with no effort all day.
So what I'm trying to say is that I can see exactly where you're coming from on the perceived 'lack' of performance!

Make sure it's the same colour - she'll never know.

Or as I said to my good lady, my new bike is smaller 650cc to 600 (SV to GSXR). I didn't lie, just 'forgot' to mention that it was a lot more powerful

NOTHING is ever fast enough. After a while in the saddle anything feels slow. I went from a Bandit 600 to a ZX7R and now i'm on a TL1000R and STILL I want faster. I've even had days when i've been riding for an hour or so and 140mph has felt so slow that i've seen 150mph+ half a dozen times within a few miles!

Hah!! My R6 always feels quick due to the fact i drive a very tame 1.9 Laguna TD all day at work!!!
You don't need a faster bike - just a slower car to compare it with

I drive a '98 Skoda Felicia 1.3 mate; you don't get much slower than that!
Look at my current car and say that again.
I've just traded up from a ZX6R to a Fazer1000 and I almost miss the "trying" part of accelerating tbh, the ZX made great noises when you opened the taps, growling airbox, howling away underneath you, whereas the Fazer just accelerates to whatever speed you want without fuss. Its impressive stuff I'd just like it to at least pretend its trying sometimes

I spend 4 weeks at a time on an oilrig ,when nothing moves faster than walking pace. Ever. Try that and then coming home to a (black) GSXR1000 - takes a whole afternoon to recalibrate!
The latest 'Bike' magazine did tests with numerous bikes to find out which was quickest.
interestingly, the fastest bike from 40 mph in fourth (i.e overtaking 3 lorries quickly ) was the Triumph speed triple due to the torque and gearing, it outaccelerated everything else including Gixxer 1000 and Hayabusa !, yes these bikes were quicker at higher speeds, but in real world situation, it just shows what really works when you quickly need to open the taps when you need to overtake.
Having tried one myself the other day, i think they're right, It's ballistic in any gear!

I cant even start to imagine anyone being in 4th gear at 40 mph , thats the sort of test a non bike riding student would bother to do , it means sfa surely .
The Busa is geared for 80 in first !
