Can anyone suggest a good sat nav system for bikes. Perhaps something with headphones so you can hear the instructions.

Also after a system for Enduro navigation, but cant find anything!

TomTom Rider is about to be updated, so watch for cheap offers. Mount is crap, so make sure you have a lanyard, or good insurance

Garmin Zumo seem quite nice, and the latest one is getting good reports. Some nice features, like left handed design, special screen for bright usage etc.

None do earphones, but most work with bluetooth, or presumably with existing autocom type systems.

All too expensive at the minute, especially the Garmin at north of £500... Theres a good thread on Visordown on the Garmin.

I have a mio C510E. It is pretty cheap, self contained, and has the whole of Europe to street level on a DVD with it, so you can just stick it on an SD card.

I am pretty impressed by it. Does Bluetooth for the phone, so you can use it as a hands-free kit.

I have Garmin Quest 2 and am pretty impressed with it. It is water resistant and has not shaken itself to bits,(previous bike a aprilia and now have a ducati, not at the smooth end of the biking scale) its quite compact, screen is in colour and a good size, maps are pretty good. I particularly like the fact that you can do all the routing in advance on the computer and then download them to the Garmin, it does mean you go where you want to rather than the route selected by the sat nav, probably the othermakes do this also. I got a bike mounting kit for it and it is permenantly wired to the bike. Also got a Starcom Advance (similar to autocom but smaller)which it is connected to which then comes through to my helmet. All works very well and I did not spend £500.

Is the Mio waterproof? What mount did you use?

Tesco.com have them on sale at £179!

Comet are clearing out TomTom Riders, for £212 plus £12 for the car cradle.

The bike mount is , as reported above , shite from what i have heard .

But at 212 , its a steal surely

told that Halfords are also clearing them , so they must have been either dropped or superceded

I've got a Garmin Quest (the original, not V2) and swear by it. It's got me to Magny Cours and back and to Le Mans and Back without a single wrong turn. And that's included a trip round the Paris ring road in Monday morning rush hour too!

I don't have it wired to the bike, but the battery lasts up to 7-8 hours, so plenty of time for a days riding before needing a charge.

I got a RAM mount for mine as the Garmin on wasn't available at the time I bought it (about two and a half years ago).

Probably the best thing I've bought for touring on the bike, apart from the bike that is!
