New kawasaki ZX 600 might just be the best looking bike ever. But I'm used to a diet of litre plus bikes. Has anyone else gone 'backwards' and not regretted it?

I guess it depends what you want to use the bike for, as a 600 typically needs more work to make it go quickly, i.e. you have to keep the engine on the boil, etc, etc

I've been considering the same - the 1000 will offer you the straight line power thrills but the 600 should be much more fun in the corners since you have less worry of too much throttle.

The new ZX6 is a stunning machine. Been thinking about a return to a 600/750 myself. Thou's are good fun, but i get the feeling that it's taking me for a ride. It get rediculous when you realise how quick you pile the speed on without really trying.

I've had two ZX6Rs and loved em to bits, great bikes. You might take some time adjusting to the gear changing if you like to keep it on the boil but generally speaking I found mine to be quite happy tanking along on top from 50mph onwards and still give some acceleration. Granted it'll never worry a litre bike from that speed in top but its not like you'll find cars crawling all over you either.

600s are great, I only traded up because I tend to have the better half on the back these days and I wanted more grunt.

I think it’s a great move to go for something other than the current ‘top of the heap’ litre sports bikes. As long as your expectations are set at the right level and you adjust your riding style to the fact that you will need to rev the bike considerably harder then the move should be successful. Other than on the occasional Autobahn, the 600 is not going to be significantly slower than the 1000 but you are going to have to work it harder. You’re not going to get that ‘kick in the rear’ when you open the throttle but you will get the razor sharp precision and near ‘telepathic’ cornering.

Nothing wrong with switching back.
I've actually owned more sports 600s than anything else. I switched back after owning a 1000cc twin for 3.5 years and boy did a 600 take some getting used to after that. Once you get back in the frame of mind to rev the crap out of it to get it to go quick its perfectly fine for road use.
Personally anyone who says a 600 sports bike with around 100bhp at the rear wheel isn't more than quick enough for the road is plain mental.

Personally I'd love to own a 1000cc 4 at some point but at the moment getting a sensibly priced insurance premium is the limiting factor, let alone theft appeal with an East London postcode.

Nowt wrong with liking 600s.

If I wanted to reduce costs I would happily have a 600 supersports. I would miss the torque, though.

Agree totally would miss the torque, also feel overtakes are more risky as having to go down a gear or two when its easier and feels safer to use the grunt of a litre bike.

I am currently considering this as well as a possible switch to track only bikes, purely to reign my neck in a little. If I don't show restraint soon, I will end up part of the scenery.

Again, I will miss the torque of the litre bike.

750 I can do no problem but I'm 6'2 and near 15 stone so not sure I'd do the bike justice. I'll certainly ruin the looks just by sitting on it!

If only kwacker would do another ZX7 that looked exactly like the new 600!

still might get one though, it's only the price that seems very steep at over £7000! Surely I could get an '06 model R1 for that?!

It has no problem embarresing litre bikes on the twisties, and what you lack in acceleration, you soon make up in the corners!!!

they are awesome!
