I dunno if this has been posted before (apologies if it has).

A mate of mine in the 'industry' relayed to me earlier today, that 3 years ago the EU passed a directive that all non-public road testing must take place on a government owned/run test sites (not a private one like I guess most people use now). It was estimated that 60 sites were required for the UK. This directive was to be implemented within 3 years so, er, now the 3 years are up

Implementation has been given a years extension the date of which is now non-extensible.

This means that in 1 years time, anyone wishing to take their motorcycle test will have to use the government sites & only the government sites. Any guesses how many of these sites are operational?

One.

It's unlikely that the other 59 will be ready within 12 months so where does this leave the new blood for motorcycling in the UK? I think this is worth a mail to MCN (which I have done). Will post any response I get.

My instructor is furious about all this. He will have to fork out for hiring these places and it's going to cost a packet apparently. The reason is that the whole structure of CBT changes to also include offroad and lots more obstacle work

EU..... Entirely Useless!!

This was a thing about this in Bike a few months back. Their conclusion was whilst its going to cause some admin problems etc, the bits added in and the way they go through the test will make the CBT a bit stronger. It is, after all, piss easy!

Having just done my direct access and not known about this I'm glad I did.

Surely the car test is the one that needs updating? The amount of idiot drivers who cut me off deliberately, pulled out and in general did illegal u-turns in front (taxi's, kings of the road - my @rse)....

I think the current test could be extended by half an hour - wouldn't hurt as I never got above 40 in it.

I do think that the EU politiciansjust has too much time on their hands, not too dissimilar to the Scottish parliament!

Sounds like i need to do my CBT sooner rather than later.

Are there any DAS changes to be aware of?

Many many many, mostly involving longer periods of greater restriction than currently are in place. Off the top of my head, I seem to recall two years on or under 125, then two years on or under 47bhp. DAS age raises to 24 as well.
Get on with it chaps, before they increase the number of wheels as well....

Honestly mate, get your DAS license this year.

Don't put it off any longer, galvanise yourself into action and make '07 the year you get onto two wheels.

Or you'll kick yourself...
