Not me, you'll be pleased to hear. Last night on the way home. Picture the scene. Dual carraigeway (a12) with a third lane which is a slip road/lane (solid white line I think). Anyways, traffic nose to tail, and a police van all lights blaring trying to get up the middle of the two lanes. Then he decides to make a left and use the slip raod/lane. There was a bike making progress up the "slip" who saw the police van at the last second and applied some hard braking. However, the bike following him wasn't so lucky and must have locked the front, cause all I heard was a loud thump/bang. I felt gutted for the guy, but didn't stop as there was the other bike there and the police van stopped also...plus the fact that I was now 10 yards ahead in the outside lane.

Now I realise that the biker should have left a bigger gap etc, but the police van could have ook another second or two before pulling out I guess.

I'd like to think that I'd have been aware of the danger looming, but you never know eh?

Take it easy out there.

Cheers.

The police driver may have been on an emergency but it is his responsibility to drive safely - not to expect everybody to simply accommodate him. I bet they won't be taking any responsibility, though.

It wouldn't surprise me if the second biker gets a 'Driving without due care' NIP

I do hope everyone was OK following the incident.

It’s always too easy to point the finger after such an event but I believe that in any incident everyone in charge of a moving vehicle involved is at least partially to blame. While the police driver should not have moved without looking, the biker should have made allowances for the fact there was a police vehicle on ‘blues and twos’ that may need to move around quickly.

Lets hope that the results of any investigation are fair and just.

Edit to add - Chilli, you had me worried with the thread title! I opened the thread thinking ‘Oh no! Not again!’

Nick, must agree the weather was great and the A12 from the Redbridge roundabout towards the A11 was empty this morning....went through the second tunnel (Leyton junction) and had the R1 right cranked and banked...lovely section of road that bit

Also went past that biker last night at about 5:15, couldn't see him but hope he is ok, there was a silver bike which was upright but I couldn't see anything else.

Andy, is that the tunnell which sweeps left then right (uphill)? If so, love that one! Apart rom the manhole covers...they always upset me. But I'm getting smoother and smoother (and faster!) through there with every dry day....obviosuly within the speed limit

Nick, I'm not sure, the one I'm talking about is the second tunnel from the Redbridge roundabout towards the city, you go down hill to the right then it bends left up hill with the speed scamera about 250 yards further down on the 3 lane section. The next tunnel before the Old Ford turn off is good too, if you're brave you can hit that without braking at ahem leptons and get that bike cranked right over  that's a left and then bends round to the right, also it's quite dark in there as the tunnel lights are pants.

Andy, yep, double checked this morning....we're on the same page! Still can't believe the amount of manhole covers there are.....very unsettling!!!
