Donnington WSB 1st April

Wow, what a days racing!
Hope the 2 guys in the supersport are ok, they didn't look too clever when they were put in the ambulances!
Superbikes - well, must have made fabulous TV, 'cos it was simply great.
Felt sorry for Xaus in the 1st race (and others but won't spoil anything).
If anyone could send me a DVD of the coverage, I'd be very grateful (please contact me through my profile) as we forgot to set the video.
We were at Hollywood today and I have a lovely red face now

Great battle with Haga and Biaggi in the second race... Getting more nto the WSB now that ther MotoGP boys are "only" sitting on 800cc!
How's Bayliss's finger...heard it was being rebuilt in hospital....ouch.
Yeah it looked nasty! He is supposed to be out for a couple of rounds isn't he? that'll work well for JT if he can score well while Bayliss is out
Still looking forward to the GP though, its getting n expensive do though, £60 on the gate this year
Hope it doesn't go the way of F1 as it gets more popular and out price us

I posted an update here but I think it was missed as I tried not to give away any race spoilers to anyone who missed the racing live. - www.pistonheads.com/gassing/topic.asp?t=374554&f=74&h=0
From what we saw on diamond vision on track, he cut into coppice too early (lots of complaints about gusty conditions) and went over the grass/kerb at speed, banked over, so the bike slid/gripped & spat him over the top!
Mrs B wanted to go after the superbikes and we were parked 100 yards from Hollywood, so straight onto the M42 to Solihull
Biaggi's front was going off in race 2, you could see him nearly lose the front a couple of times, especially into Redgate.
Hope Hodg gets a chance on the factory Ducati while Bayliss is out. I think he might find it a bit tougher than he remembers, but I reckon he'd be up for it.

Reigning double World Superbike champion Troy Bayliss has returned to his Monte Carlo home following an operation on his injured hand, which resulted in the removal of the top two bones of his right little finger.
The Australian had a weekend of ups and downs at Donington Park: On Friday he celebrated his 38th birthday, on Saturday he set pole position and then on Sunday he high-sided out of the lead of race one at Coppice - sustaining injuries to his hand and groin. Bayliss was first taken to the Clinica Mobile, before doctors sent him to the nearby Derbyshire Royal Infirmary for immediate surgery.
The operation consisted of the removal of the top two bones (intermediate and distal phalanges) of the little finger of his right hand. During the fall, Bayliss also received a powerful blow in the groin region and, due to concerns, specialists at the Derby hospital also carried out checks before giving him the OK to leave. Troy was discharged late on Monday afternoon and flew back to Monte Carlo.
Bayliss is now resting at home and he will undergo a reassessment of his injuries on Friday. Race regulations require a further medical check on Thursday of next week before Bayliss can be declared fit to race, but all signs point to the Australian being able to return to the track for the next round of the 2007 World Superbike championship at Valencia on April 13-15.
"The crash happened so quickly that I don't remember my hand going under the handlebar or anything," said 'Baylisstic'. "The only thing I remember when I stopped was pain in my groin, I didn't feel the hand at all. Basically I crashed through corner speed, trying to make a gap on James [Toseland] which I was doing and in this one corner the back came around on me and went into a slide/chatter.
"Normally I would save it but Coppice has a little rise and the bike came back as it crested the rise and that set it off in a different direction and I didn't have a chance at saving it," admitted the Ducati Xerox rider. "I'm confident I'm going to be fine for Valencia. It's hard to say after one day but I feel like things are coming along OK and I've still got plenty of days to recover. I feel like I can get on a motorbike now but I won't know that until I do. Hopefully in just a week and a half you'll see the usual Troy!"
David Mitchell, the newly-appointed head of brand and marketing communications at Xerox Europe - who met Bayliss for the first time at the Donington weekend - added:
"On behalf of Xerox, I would like to express our concern for Troy's wellbeing. Our thoughts are with him after Sunday's horrible accident and we wish him a speedy recovery. Along with the team and all his race fans, we are all looking forward to him getting back out on the track again as soon as possible."

"04-04-2007 Troy's Diary: "You could say I split an Atom. Anyway all went well and now I just have to suffer for a while"
Donington has never been great for me and the weekend that passed I was doing everything to try and put it right, but it was not to be. The conditions slowly got better as the weekend went on but Sunday was still quite windy. Come race time we had 2 tyres to choose from so we raced on the hardest one which would be slower but more consistant. I was confident for the race and set off with only a win on my mind. It took a while for the tyre to come in and by the third lap I had managed to pull a bit of a gap. I saw +0.3 twice then +0.4. I made 31.5 on the lap before the crash and on the lap I crashed I was putting a better one together until the back came around on me.
My crash came from corner speed, it was more like a 125 highside. I already had a constant throttle and was rolling through the corner when the back came around and went into a massive chatter. I was so close to saving it when it came back, but coppice has a section that drops away and that sent me off, it was like a double whammy.
You may of noticed me holding my bits in the gravel trap, they got a whacking from the tank and the ripple strip. Very painfull. When I made it over the fence and sat down a kid asked me for my gloves. I whipped them off and to my surprise my pinky was hanging by a thread. I'm no expert but I knew it wouldn't be there for long. Luckily in Derby there was a very good hand Specialist unit and they trimmed it up. While I was under the urologist had some work to to do on my groin. You could say I split an Atom. Anyway all went well and now I just have to suffer for a while."
