2 Bikers killed on the M25...
Discussion
Pretty nasty accident apparently, some berk in a silver BM collided with a truck making both vehicles cross the central reservation. The truck was carrying steel and ran into a number of vehicles including a group of five (?) bikers, two of which were killed at the scene, one is seriously injured and two have minor injuries. I believe the truck driver is seriously injured too.
The BM driver has been arrested on two counts of suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving. A copper attending said "The motorcyclists didn't stand a chance, it happened too fast."
Poor buggers, feel for them and their families.

Having spent all day out riding with a friend on saturday, he rang yesterday morning to say he had just been contacted by the wife of an old mate, who told him that he was one of the bikers killed in that accident. From what i can gather, a load of them were travelling down on their way to Belgium.
Absolutely gutted for you and all others affected directly by this accident. RIP

Passed the accident and saw the bikes on the back of the recovery truck. Ducati 748/996 a triumph and a harley type, at which point the wife said to me 'you WILL be carefull wont you'
So sorry for the families of these poor soles caught up in it.
The BM looked a bit of a wreck and the overturned lorry had blocked the whole carriage. Do hope the guy gets the book thrown at him IF he was driving badly and caused it...

Just found out that I knew one of the guys killed; he was the husband of a friend of my mother's.
He was only 42 and has left a wife and 4 children. Horrific accident, the police are having to take DNA from his parents in order to officially identify him.
What I really can't even begin to understand though is how sick some people are. Police at the scene apparently had to confiscate several mobile phones as people were taking pictures of the bodies.
The guy in the BM has been arrested for dangerous driving but I don't know any more than that.

I used to get this loads when I was on Traffic. I just used to seize all the phones/cameras/camcorders as evidence. And hold onto them until the completion of any Court/Coroner's proceddings. And any subsequent appeals process...

Made me shiver, You could be as careful as you like but if a lorry comes at you the wrong way through the central armco you're stuffed regardless. the picture in the paper of the aftermath was awful.

Same here. Nothing they could have done....just didn't have time to react. Poor blokes. Deepest sympathies to the families.....awful.
I received, what look like, official plod pictures of an RTA the other week. Its of a head-on between a car and an articulated lorry.
The guy in the car stood no chance. The lower half of the car went under the lorry. The upper half of the car was all on the rear seat. The lower half of the driver stayed with the lower half of his car (underneath the lorry), his upper half remained in the upper half of the car (on the back seat). So we no that there's no way you've leaving the scene upright if you were on a bike and in an RTA with a lorry...
My thoughts are with all concerned.

Without knowing all the details of this particular accident, I will say that this sort of thing only encourages me to speed on my bike.
My logic is this:
If Im doing 110mph, I approach EVERY situation on the motorway on my terms because Im approaching them. I get to study driver behaviour, whether the trailer/caravan has a weave on, if the chavved-up Corsa is changing lanes erratically, if the truck's load looks unsafe etc etc Then I decide how fast and with how much room I pass and dispense with that particular scenario.
If people are approaching me, I get no say in how they approach me and therefore have no chance to modify my behaviour to ensure my safety. Perhaps no warning of something out of control coming towards me, or it's loose load or whatever.
The long and the short of it is, when Im on the motorway, I always travel fast enough so that nothing overtakes me and if there is a car with a point to prove, I pull across and give them a wide berth.
It's worth considering I reckon. Maybe not everyone will agree with it but its worked for me so far.* when you have as little protection as we do, dont leave youre lives in anyone's hands but your own.
My thoughts are of course with these rider's families and my points here are not meant to anyway point a finger or aportion blame.
