You need to get it up on a paddock stand and check for tight-spots in the chain (stiff links oooo-eerrr!) - turn the back wheel by hand until you've checked all of the chain. Then adjust the chain at the tightest spot.
Another check for a goosed chain, is to take the slack up with your left hand by pushing the chain up at the longest run and check the you can't pull the chain from the 3 o'clock position on the sprocket

thanks for your help, ive just checked it and i can pull the chain from the 3 o'clock position, ive also got tight spots on the chain, so i think it is fooked, i will buy a new chain and sprockets tomorrow
