Anyone got any sensible suggestions on getting the old beast fired up ?

Not used for about 3 months (maybe more) and it refuses to fire or even cough at the moment

Stripped the tank off, along with fairings to get to everything, taken plugs out and I have a spark. with everyting turning over ok. Put fuel down plug holes and put plugs back in, but still no cough (although now air still off )

I suppose next step is to bake plugs in oven and try again with more petrol, maybe new petrol as tank last filled in September eek ?

Any other ideas as I don't fancy stripping and rebuilding the 4 carbs

Sounds a lot like the problem I'm having with my GSXR750.

Won't start after 4 months.

Have changed petrol and spark plugs.

Drained float bowls.

Tried carb cleaner.

It fires, but after a short time just bogs down and stalls. I reckon the jets in the carbs are blocked

Good luck with getting yours sorted!

I'd strip and rebuild the 4 carbs, it's the only way to be sure

simply squirt a good dose of Easystart into the airbox and that should get if firing for a few turns of the motor. Might be enough to get it going and clear out the plugs/cylinders. It's always worked for me.

Fuel tap was on, but also tried on the primer setting to no avail, hence why I put petrol direct into cylinders to cause a reaction also no use, hence why thinking it could be stale petrol and waiting to get some more in a can.
I could set light to te petrol and see if it burns in my bonfire tomorrow though

Well so far stripped and cleaned the carbs today, but still no luck in firing, hopefully pick up some easy start and fresh fuel tomorrow. Checked all the plugs for sparks and all seem healthy. Running out of ideas to try now

I bet it`s the fuel...it never ceases to suprise me just how quickly petrol seems to go off in a bike petrol tank....3 months in the garage was enough to bugger mine up...fresh juice and it was a goer...Give the battery a good charge too just to maximise the chances of a successfull starting attempt again...Sometimes a push down the street ,dumping the clutch in 2nd ,can be enough to make the difference...you just need a willing, fit mate to oblige...Sometimes my Duke get all hot and bothered and needs a push...bloody Ducati`s...

Good luck!!

Well tried new fuel, and easy start direct into throttle bodies and still not a hint of explosion.

Must be something electrickery now as I'm totally baffled. Used to be able to get an outboard started within a day after no use for 6 months, but this is just beating me. Will have to push to a shop for further advice or just break for spares

Glow plug fuel down the plugholes will coax just about anything into life yes paperbag

It's mostly nitro-methane and ethanol, aka dragster fuel.

Yup, the fuel for those little engines in r/c planes and cars. Very very igniteable
