Got my test on Monday and all going well I will be one of you guys. Looking to buy a cheapo bike, no more than a grand. Any ideas? Thinking possibly a CB500. Looing for something that handles quite well, is going to be reliable and doesnt cost an arm and a leg to repair if it breaksdown or I drop it. I'm not too bothered about top speed. Just want something that will put a smile on my face.

Does anyone know if there is an age limit on hiring a bike in Florida. Getting married there in 2 weeks and all going well tomorrow, we both fancy hiring out bikes for a few days. No Harley for me. I'm too short and its too heavy and I WILL fall over!

Please keep everything crossed for me on Monday.

Suzi GS500 is another good 'un.

If you like the American Chopper/ Wild One/ Easy Rider thang, how about an XV535 Virago? Seat somewhere near the centre of the earth, grunty V-twin and plenty of bling to look at (and polish) - and lots of aftermarket leather and lace accessories for them too.

CB500 is regarded as the best of the small parallel twins. Kawasaki ER5 is another favourite first bike.

you will struggle to hire anything BUT a Hardley Movingson in Florida.

Congratulations on passing your test

Hi Caroline,

Well done on passing your test, I know just how excited you are right now. My advice to you is to get out there and buy the first bike you fancy from a dealer you like and get on with the business of riding the thing. It's all just far too much fun to waste time getting bogged down trying to pick and choose between all the different models and colours.

Oh, don't pass up the chance to have a spin on a GPZ500, another nice twin which should fit your budget rather nicely and comes with a half fairing as standard.

Unless you are about 4 foot nothing you arn't too short.....

And you won't find them that heavy........

And you won't fall over.......

Harley's are a doddle to ride as although heavy, all the weight is low down and most have really low seat heights as well.

Go on give one a go.......
