can anyone tell me what the letters which come before the diameter of a tyre e.g. 160/60 "ZR" 17 stand for??

also if i have ZR17's on my wheels now can i change these for R17's?

They're speed ratings i.e. the tyre has been certified to work up to the given speed. Try here for more info.
