well due to my bike been written off and the insurance company still taking thier time over admitting liability i could still be several months away from a pay out and dont want to miss a summers biking, what i want to do is buy something for £2.5-3k tops that i could ride until i get my payout enabling me to get a brand new bike, i want something thats an all out sportsbike as per usual but it also needs to not really lose any money during the time i have it, obviously if it loses a couple of hundred or so im not fussed but i mean i dont want something that will halve in value.
my main thoughts were either an early R1 or a Ducati 748, anyone got any other sugestions, and also what to look out for on bikes of that age, obviously i know to check how it rides and to check for crash damage etc but is there anything else that really lets either of those 2 down?.

Have you not asked your insurance co if a hire bike was availible?
When i was hit by a 3rd party, they were pretty keen on me having one of their hire bikes and it was no risk... if i'd lost the claim i didn't have to pay a penny... Got a brand new VFR800 off them, quite a good road bike and it got a good thrashing for three months
Won the claim, but i later found out the 3rd party insurance co was contesting the hire charges...... £8,000 for 3 months hire!!! had to sign a form and they claimed the charges back... no wonder premiums are so expensive and no wonder they were keen on me having the hire bike! Delivered it next day

when the accident first happened it was at the end of feb, and i was told 4-6 weeks before the claim was finished so i thought, ok its not too bad i will just do without as i wouldnt make use of the bike, now thier trying to argue the toss over liability but 3 witnessses in my friend who was on the bike at the times favour and none in the woman who pulled out in front of hims favour, the third party insurer who were claiming against hasnt seen the witness statements yet but i have a funny feeling that when they do they should get the ball rolling over a payout.

Similar story to mine... 2 witness in my favour none for her,she also admitted liability to the police at the scene of the accident.. so i was expecting a speedy payout and was offered the hire bike next day so took it thinking it would help speed the claim up... 3 months later they finaly paid out! they had themselves to blame for the hire charges and really can't see how such a clear cut case took so long to resolve...

thanks for that, i will contact them on monday morning, a VFR800 will seem like biking exotica after been stuck in a Range Rover classic during this weather.
