A back protector is a good idea but if you have not yet bought a set of leathers don't rush out and buy a back protector as some leathers (like BKS) come with the armour, including a back protector, built in.

I have one and fortunately it hasn't come in handy so far (300 miles), but I wouldn't go out for a ride without it...

For road riding don't wear rigid ones. They can make some injuries a lot worse.

Fantastic bit of kit. Soft and pliable yet it absorbs a huge amount of energy. I had a blackbelt mate of mine kick me with full force in the back and I didn't even move. He reckoned I should have hit the deck like a sack of spuds. I can't recommend it highly enough. My Crowtrees were made to measure with me wearing it and you really can't tell it's there.

You tend to hit the deck then slide on a track, on a road you hit the deck, slide, then hit something solid (tree, kerb, etc.).

Yes, have had my Dainese for six years, never go riding without it. And yes, right away...
