Had a fab ride Sunday afternoon, on these lovely Lincolnshire roads. Nearly binned it though. Overconfidence - crested a rise which I had subliminaly assumed went right...
...and it went left just over the brow. Managed not to freeze or panic, but it scared the shit out of me...
A salutory lesson....

Yep it was a big moment.
The bike being already light on the road from cresting the hill made it real scary. I can see how bikers end up buried in the front of oncoming traffic in this situation. The strangest thing was finding myself dangling my left foot off the peg, motocross style. I can't believe my brain is still programmed with that crap nearly 15 years after I packed in competitive racing.
Weird, weird weird.

well done for not panicing

Well, the panic nearly got me, but in that split second I managed to relax my grip and I talked myself out of it. I was like, no don't do that! Relax relax. relax. Head over the left mirror, left elbow down, right arm resting on the tank. Lock the right knee into the bike and look where I want to go...
Cornering? I realise I've only been tinkering with it until now!!!
Seriously though. I'm making light of it now, but it shit me up good and proper. Not my finest moment. Appalling observation, bad road positioning and overconfidence...I got away with it this time. I'll try to work on there not being a next time.
Time for some advanced training I reckon.

Good post that.

Target fixation exists! Look where you want to go - unless your name is Rossi, or you are on a Step-Thru, the bike is better than you. Get off the brakes, lean and you'll be amazed at what you can get away with!
Agreed! I just could not believe how the bike simply carved around the turn. I was just along for the ride.
Amazing.

Yup.
back on the bike this week for the first time in nearly a year and a bit rusty. (Me not bike)
Yesterday I was full of confidence and riding comparitively well and took a particular bend probably faster than I usually do and surprised myself how well it all flowed.
today approached 10mph slower but somehow not "flowing". Oh thats the white line, Oh that looks like the opposite verge. STOP LOOKING AT IT!!!!
Shiny side up everyone
