I'm now a Racer
Discussion
Hi Guys,
I've got my ACU license and done my first race weekend
I didn't do very well - best place was 26th out of 37 and 4 of those was from people crashing out! In my defense, they do start the newbies at the back...
However, it is really fun. If any of you do several track days a year, my advice is to stop doing track days and go racing as it is much more fun.
Here's one of me slipping it up the inside (as it were)

Hi Guys,
My best race was the last wet race on Sunday. I locked onto a rider(number40) that had been 30 seconds faster than me in the previous race and chased him down, gradually getting closer.
At the end of lap 6 the leaders lapped me as we got to the start/finish straight. I'd managed a good speed out of clearways, so I drafted the leaders up the straight and overtook number40 at Paddock hill bend.
He was much better and braver through Druids and overtook me under brakes.
I picked a better line through Graham Hill bend and with the extra corner speed, I drew along side him by the end of the back straight
We stayed side by side for the S bend of Surtees and Mclarens and all the way around Clearways but I'd managed to get on the gas earlier and just beat him to the line
If you're interested, one of the easier routes in is through

But, these guys run at cost, so only use them if you think you'll enjoy racing around on old 250 2 strokes. Trust me though, as long as you have a pulse, you'll love it. They are much quicker than they seem and you'll certainly learn corner speed/lean angle/best lines. Then, after a season or so, if you're any good, you could consider moving up to a more power series and you'd probably do very well because of the skills learnt on the MZ.

All the gear !!! By the looks of it he hasn't even got a fairing for his bike yet
I take it as it was you're first race you have to wear the orange top (like first times on trackdays) ?
How did you get your licence ? I've never really looked into it & would be interested in finding out whats involved.

Andy - was that you at Brands last Thurs??? I saw a bike like that making a 2-stroke racket and keeping up with the Gixer/R1/Blade crowd!
If so, well done - we were watching you!

I'd love to claim that as me - but it wasn't!
I was at Brands Friday/Saturday/Sunday and near the back.
Chilli - the next race is at Pembrey (Wales) but I probably won't make it as I'm still hunting for the correct bike.
When you pay your race entries fees, they normally give you a few extra tickets... Do you know what circuit you're nearest? If I'm at that track, I can probably let you have a ticket.

Andy,
I'm based in Essex, but will happily travel for a few hours.
Thanks mate, I appreciate it
Chilli - this link will probably help. I've known a couple of guys start off in MZs and had a brilliant laugh, they seem to be a great bunch of guys, while the bikes are cheap and easy to maintain. Also had a couple of mates racing 400s, which to me looked like more fun than the bigger bikes.
