Drink driving....
Discussion
Didnt want to be invading on 996's court thread so have brought the topic here.
I admitted to doing a lot of drink driving in the past and having been nicked last yr and being banned i decided to give up drinking for this year in the hope that next year i will be able to drink moderately and NEVER drink (even a shandy) and get in/on a vehicle again. If i cant show that control then i shall give up for the rest of my life.
Its been hard so far especially with summer creeping in. You begin to realise just how readily available it is and how socially acceptable it is even though in reality it has the potential to be as harmful as illegal drugs.
At the end of the day i've got nothing to hide. I did drink and drive and im sorry i did it but im glad i got caught before something tragic did happen. As iv said getting caught was the best thing that ever happened to me..
Anyone else been had for a DR??

Not myself but have always enjoyed a beer most nights but am always worried about going out the next over the limit. also lcuky I don't ride far to work. not saying I may have never been over the limit on a morning after a hard night out a few years back but I think limiting the amount you drink is better than just stopping. As you said everyone drinks and its all too easy to get a drink

agreed.
Not sure it was appropriate to have posted what I did on the other thread - but it was so unusual for someone to admit on these forums that they have done it - and it is something I wanted to bring up as a topic for a while - but didn't want the stigma associated with it.
I know within my circle of friends over 10 people that have been caught - thankfully all routine stops, and no incidents - none of them do it anymore.
The topic I was going to bring up is - how prevalent is it? Just within my group of friends? or is this common place amongst people of my age? (31)

I'd say it's more socially acceptable now than it was a generation ago: I'm 35 and my parents & their friends and family have always been quite concientious when it comes to avoiding driving under the influence. My friends certainly seem a lot more tolerant and for my own part, I wouldn't now, but ten years younger was an entirely different case. The morning after I think would be the most common problem nowadays, at least amongst my circle of friends, but I know at least one person who occasionally falls foul of the same thing I used to: getting absolutely smashed and then just plain not giving a shit.

I've never driven drunk, and none of my circle that I know about have done so either. I'm about the same age as Fats, so I don't think it's necessarily an age related thing.
Drinking and driving is one of the few motoring related offences that if I knew someone was doing it, I'd shop them for it....
Perhaps it's a London commuter issue as much as anything else? A swift half after work leads to several drinks, you get the last train home, and then arrive at the village / small town station in the middle of nowhere with your car parked in the car park? Dunno, I live in town so I could be talking a load of old bollo

only thing im gonna say is if your caught drink driving u should never get a driving license again as your not fit to be behind the controls of any vehicle, its not just yourself that your gonna hurt its the innocent bystanders lives that get wrecked.
hold on a minute, i got my license back and iv given up drinking. im not saying that everyone could do the same but surely never allowing me to have a license again is a bit harsh???

Yep with you on that one.. As with everything there is black, white and shades of grey. Unlike most Politicians perspective... Punishment should fit the crime.
You were over the limit, which in itself is not hard to be (hopefully not blind drunk!) and you 've been punished for it. Most importantly you've learnt the lesson.
We all make bad decisions from time to time. Some worse than others and we should be accountable for our actions. Eternal damnation i dont believe is the answer to this one!!
absolutely, although in reality what percentage really do learn the lesson. there were several repeat offenders in the alcohol awareness classes i attended and a handful of people i'v had the conversation with have said that they know of people that are on the 3 yr ban after being caught twice...
i dont mind admitting that fubar, to some degree, may have a point. i mean the laws in this country are very soft.
if i had known that id lose my license, never to have it returned theres a good chance i may never have drunk driven in the first place...
food for thought...

i know people that have been done for drink driving and then done the same thing again after getting there license back , so it would seem that a driving ban and a couple of hundred quid fine doesnt really do anything to discourage this behaviour.
perhaps im the only exception to the rule then...Gassing Station | Biker Banter | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
