Insurance Renewal Update
Discussion
After spending the last four years with full commitment to Carole Nash and the fact that it was easy not to bother ringing around at renewal time, I realised that they were still a good deal on the blade at £445 fully comp (£650 excess)....
That is until I rang Bennetts for a quote. After 20 minutes of going through the standard quote procedure, I spent another 20 mintes talking to the (British, not call centre) chap who also rode a bike. After a few adjustments to the policy he asked me if I was sitting down.
He had reduced the policy premium to £207 fully comprehensive with an excess of £650.
How did he do it?
1. I reduced my annual mileage to 2999 from 3000
2. I removed my pillion cover (I have a single seat conversion and the bread knife only came on the back once last year)
After adding full Euro recovery for £59, I am set up for another year. The Insurer also covers all modifications to the bike, awesome, Power Commander here we come to suit the Yoshi.
Just thought I would share my experience.
Another point to note is that many insurers are now cancelling their rider policy to stop cover for other bikes. The helpful gent suggested that if I was fully comprehensive on my car policy that I look through my details as it probably suggests that I am covered TPO on any other VEHICLE, thus covered to ride other bikes. Nice.
Details in case you are interested:
2005 Firebucket
31 yrs old, garaged, Datatool Sys 3, HISS, Smartwater, no claims, no points, 4 yrs NCB, Bikesafe, 2999 miles

I'm also with bennetts and was very impressed with the service. I felt like the guy on the phone was on my side! He suggested i up my mileage and lower my excess as it would make no difference to my premium which i thought was very honest! Even including euro breakdown they were able to beat other quotes by a decent margin.

Check this one carefully - this used to be the case but I have 3 car policies (Zurich, Norwich Union and Liverpool Victoria) and each of them provides 3rd party cover for driving a motor car. Policies generally used to specify 'any other vehicle' so long as you held the relevant licence and had the owner's permission but over the last few years the wording's different

Agreed car policies all specifically state motor car when offering 3rd party cover on cars not owned by you and have done for many years now.
My current bike policy allows 3rd party cover on other bikes, I'll take note of this particularly when the policy is up for renewal as I make use of it to ride loan bikes when mines in for a service.
