Knee down question

i am getting the confidance to move around on the bike and get my knee out.
One question. I seem to keep my feet out, and looked today before going to work and have scraped my toe slider. So for all the experanced riders out there, whats the best way get your knee down and position etc..

sounds like you dont have your feet inthe right place use the balls of you feet on the pegs for a start hang of like a monkey turn you boby a bit as if you are going round the tank and push your knee outwards and a bit foward and go round and round a roundabout a little bit faster each time more lean each time and it will touch.
To help to get your knee down you have to have your backside hanging off the seat i.e on a right hand bend your left buut cheek will be on the seat and your right will be off the seat, and vice versa. You will also have the ball off your right foot on the foot peg as other wise if you have your toes sticking out (as you said you have) you're not positioned right on the bike & foot peg. Have a look at tsome of the racers and you will see what I'm trying to say......

The secret is body / foot position. Always ride with your inside foot on its "ball" to keep the toes away from the ground. Drop your shoulders so your forearms are parallel to the ground. One bum cheek off the seat (is all!). Drop the inside elbow down towards the ground, lock the outside forearm against the tank and their will be slider/tarmac interface. One question. Indeed, watch the TT as well, not much knee down action at all there. Personally I think knee down antics on the road are a bit sad. I've said it before on here, but there is a 'knee down roundabout' near me. Its so funny watching the weekend boys do there stuff. Some are good but the majority get their knees down with the bike so upright!!

Ah but the TT isnt a short circuit race and time isnt made in the slower/meduim stuff, its in the balls out fast sections and sweepers.
For or against, one thing is for certain, it is a lot of fun, safer and less expensive than dragging boots and chassis parts of the bike on the deck..

Hmmmm!
I would guess that time is made or lost in all sections of the TT circuit as it is very often not the bike with the highest top speed that wins.podman said:

I view it that if Phil McCallen can win the TT, which is run on real public roads, with little requirement to put his knee on the floor then there is no requirement for mere mortals like me to have a knee on the floor anywhere on a public road. black-k1 said:

I agree with you there BK1, I do ride quick on the road but do not got out with the intention of getting my knee down, I reserve those antics for the track, especially the triple apex left handed in field corner at Rockingham, there's nothing like 15,000 rpm in fourth gear (on my old ex race R6) with your left knee on the deck & the rear spinning up leaving big long darkies on the track

PS The angle on both is a bit girly, but in my defence, I was on a bike that handled like a pissed wheelie bin.
Your foot is in the wrong position - I know because my boots are a little worn from when I first started riding! Never even bother putting my knee out on the road but do follow the other rules such as bum off the seat, shoulder down, head away from the screen etc. You get your knee down to judge the angle of lean. I might get my knee down on the public road if I lived somewhere else other than norfolk where you cannot take decent lines on most roads because you don't / can't see round corners because the bloody county is so damn flat!
I have a mate who always sticks his knee out on the corners and to be honest I'm quicker upright looking at the view!
I do however drag my knee on nearly all of the corners at Snetterton.

Getting yer knee down on the road is good for one thing only, just to freshen up the marks on your slider to save the embarrasment of sitting at a meet with fresh sliders. [nothing wrong in that] Other than that, I think it hinders your progress on the road and concentration should be on staying on rather than hanging off.
