(blush) sorry chaps I was just offered the bike for private sale.

Ever since I had an RC45 I've been wanting an RC51 (SP1) but never
got around to it. I've just managed to pick up this one for 2900 quid but before the deal was done I wanted to canvass opinion. Seems like the price is good.

Cheers!

Ooh - very cheeky of you!
Nice bike though - a mate of mine has one and loves it. Get a decent pipe on it and it'll sound fabulous!

I quite fancy one as a track bike, not sure they are much good on the road. Have you still got the RC45? I borrowed one for a day about 5 years ago, it's an epic machine.

No I had the RC45 for about 5 years ending in ~2003. Epic machine alright, especially in its day (mine was a 92 L reg). The SP1 I tried felt very much the same only with rather more grunt. That's why I've always had a soft spot for an SP1 but with it being a bit hard on the road never wanted to spend SP1 money. I can't believe I've got a minter for under 3k, incredible amount of bike for that money.

Interestingly I'm on great terms with my local Honda dealer who gave me a call out of the blue in 1992 (IIRC) asking me if I'd be ever so kind and take this brand new, first in the country RC45, and run it in because Superbike magazine wanted to run a test with it, an RC30 and an NR750. He didn't want them caning it from brand new so wondered if I'd put 1000 miles on over the next few days.... I rode through his dealership 1.5 days after picking it up, parked in the workshop and the 600 mile service was done, then off I rode again for a couple more days.
