Just bought a Yamaha YZ 250 !

Just bought a 2003 YZ250, lovely unraced example. Only thing is there are no reciepts for recent engine work.. It pulls nice and strong and sounds like a 250 crosser should. Would i be as well replacing the small end anyway in the hope less damage would be done if it let go? Or just enjoy it and think about a rebuild later? Sorry i'm a bit of a newby when it comes to owning crossers (have driven plenty though!) : - )
