Well, just thought I would let you all know that I am off to pick up my new bike. A Bandit 650s and I can't wait. The weather is looking pretty good! A little nervous as this is my first bike ever and its been a while since I've been on something bigger that a 125, but what the hay. Anyone one know of any really good routes in Scotland that would be good for a beginner?
Lovely...the road up through the clyde tunnel in Glasgow towards Aberfoyle is good...especially the road that takes you up into the Trossachs behind the town.
The A road that heads down to Jedburgh from Edinbugh is a great road too...
North Berwick should be good today too...not too far away..

Good stuff, there are so many great road about. Where abouts in Scotland?Hi Caroline,
Nice one!
In your part of the world, try this local bike group: www.itics.co.uk/edam/edam/edam.aspx
You can ask them what social rides/events they organise and any routes they recommend.
Enjoy!

Not so familiar with east side, but first route I'd look at would be heading up to Perth, then going to Lochearnhead via Crief. You then have the choice of heading back via Callander, Doune and Stirling, or heading up towards Crianlarich with lunch at the Green Welly Stop at Tyndrum.
From Tyndrum you can continue north up the A82 through Glencoe, around the Lochleven "ring" a few times
and back down through Mallaig and head back to the Green Welly along that road with the lovely twisties. Alternatively, you can head straight for Mallaig from Tyndrum and wander down the coast towards Inverary (collecting some fine malt on the way) then back through Arrochar and Loch Lomond, or head back towards Tyndrum for the homeward route through Crianlarich. Or some variation of the above: like I alluded to, I'm much more familiar with the west coast!
The above describes mostly some fairly long routes for a good days riding, but if you don't mind racking up a few miles and using a couple of tanks of fuel then you'll see some stunning scenery on great roads. Which is what it's all about IMO.
If you want some company sometime I'm quite happy to meet up at Crianlarich, Stirling or even Perth.

The A696 I think... you can follow it across the border, over Otterburn way and right down to Newcastle.Edited by F.M on Sunday 17th June 12:14
However it is riddled with Gatsos on the Scottish side of the border

If you're nervous of setting out on your own, http://www.perthshireladiesmcc.co.uk/ are a very friendly bunch and have members of all abilities, AFAIK.
