OK, I’m looking for some tyre recommendations. What I want is utopia, in that I’d like the tyres to last for about 100,000 miles but stick like sh1t to a blanket in all conditions. Oh! And I’d like each tyre to cost no more than £5.

Given that I accept no one yet produces such a tyre, I’m looking for recommendations on a compromise. I do most of my miles as fast(ish) A roads without too much serious cornering, but I do like the ‘occasional footpeg scraping session’. I don’t do many track days any more (none last year and none planned for this year). What’s good at the moment for mileage and grip? I have been looking at the Michelin Pilot Road 2s but are there any recommended alternatives?

I've used Bridgestone 014's, Pilot 2CT's and now Corsa III's. The Corsa III's for me provide more confidence on the front than the Pilot 2CT's but both are good tyres. The 014's to be honest weren't in the same league but maybe good for increased mileage.

I think you've hit the nail on the head especially for your Firestorm....wink

I’m using 014’s at the moment but I’m not overly impressed with the mileage and the grip/stability doesn’t seem any better than the 010’s I had previously which did seem to give better mileage.

That's what I thought. Looks like I'll have to order a pair. (Now, two tyres at £5 each costs .......)

You could give the 2CT's a go as I have always praised these tyres and now being on my 5th set of them. I get good mileage out of mine but they really are shot by the time I change them after about 6,000 to 7,000 miles. I reckeonthe Road 2's would probably give better longevity but I have not tried them......if you do give them a go please let us know what you think about them

Now, 6K to 7k out of a rear would suit me fine. I currently get about 3.5k out of an 014 and used to get about 5k out of an 010. Hmmmm scratchchin a set of 2CT's might be a better option. Thanks.

I had the same sort of mileage out of my 010s and 014s. I haven't had the 2cts for long enough to tell you how long they last but they feel like a much nicer tyre than either type of bridgestone.

I would quite happily go back to using the BT57's As they provided outstanding mileage and grip for a sports/touring tyre.

I have used 3x sets of rennsports, 1x Dunlop 208, a set of diablo corsas, a set of supercorsas and now a new set of Corsas IIIs. I have never managed more than 2K on a rear on the GSXR and when you look at the front, it is obvious that it will not last another 2K, hence a new set every time. The record was the std corsas which were 100 miles old when I went to a Donnington track day. The rear cut up badly at the 45 degree angle so that it was down to 2mm when the crown was still on 4-5mm! The front was okay there but a new back in less then 500 miles without a single burnout!

Yikes!
