Morning all,

Had a great day yesterday...bloody fast circuit...too fast for the R6!! I found it wanting along the back straight, and all the work that went into passing "most" of the others, was undone along the straights. I was manageing to get out of the corners faster than most and just edge past the R1's and the Blades, but within 200 yards, they were back past me.
I was having a great "battle" with a ZX10. He was having all sorts of trouble keeping the front down, and his corner speeds were not that good. BUT, he'd just manage to creep past on the straights, and I had to take a few chances under braking, which sometimes worked!!
Had one scary moment when I came off the track....ran on the grass for a bit but kept it upright. However, it completely put me off, and the rest of the lap was soo bad, I came in early.

Hy mate was using my bike as he was in the advanced, and I chickened out into the inters....He managed a 150 down the back straigth, whereas I could only manage 146. I think he was just carrying more exit speed, but then again, he's very impressive to watch....a very good rider.

So, you know what....I think I'm gonna get the Gixer750. The R6 just seem to run out of puff. It just stops "pulling" when the biggar ones don't. I wouldn't have thought there'd be much weight difference between the R6. And I think it was ark who said that it's a bit dumb to keep getting the same bike....I think he's right!

Still, my 2nd ever day on the track, and leaving all but 2 or 3 of the inters behind....So I was pretty happy. However, I think it's a big step up to the advanced, so I'll stay where I am for the time being.... very happy with the pace.

A quick note about the R6. Didn't miss a beat. Seriously, it spent most of the day (was in 2 groups) with the gear change light on, and I hit the limiter about 4 or 5 times, and not a single problem (apart from some plastic coming off and hitting me in the leg at 120!). It took a real pasting and is fine.

Def do it. You'll have a right laugh, and get a lot of training mixed in.

You've mad me feel very jealous, I think Snetterton is very underated as a circuit. Its amazing how your pace picks up as you get used to it, sorry that sounds like I'm stating the bl**dy obvious but because its such a fast circuit I think it takes longer to work out your ideal braking points. Probably most of us mere mortals never do find them as the 'old sphincter' gets in the way. yikes

Did you ever get the chicane right, I have always struggled with it.

You won't regret changing the bike.

You're spot on mate. Took a few laps to find the braking points etc...but you keep pushing those further back the more you go round!!! The chicane was a bit of a disappointment TBH. It seemed I was always approaching others into it, and their pace was quite a bit slower. Not saying I'm brilliant, far from it, but the R6 seems to dart through them better than the bigger bikes. So I was running very close to them... Even when I managed to get on the throttle a tad earlier, I'd draw alongside them, but then they just pulled away agian.....really frustrating!!!

The rumble strips coming out of the chicane are an eye opener when you go over them on full throttle!!!!!

my gsx-r 1000 (k1) used to hit 160 mph down revett straight, and that's with me on it. A good rider will get that out of a 750 but less experienced will struggle. I'd go the full monty and get a litre bike. It's not like they're heavy or slow turning these days. Most are lighter and better handling than 600s of a few years ago. Besides even when you're not going for the lap record the litre bike acceleration will make you laugh out loud.

Nick, before you take the plunge and order a GSXR 750, go get a test ride on an R1, GSXR 1000 and the GSXR 750 and then make your decision.

Wise words Nick. Do try a couple of other bikes before deciding which one to go for. Also, remember that you use the bike on the road (most of the time) so it needs to be just as happy trudging through town traffic as hitting the rev limiter on the back straight.

Absolutely. I thought about the 750 as it's a step, not a jump, up the ladder. I'll get test rides sorted for this Saturday.

Cheers.

A great track eh !

Hmm... so the 600 is a little slower than the litre bikes on the longest straight in the UK -- you think that warrants changing to a 750 or even a litre bike ?

I can promise that you will not go much faster on a 750 or a thou at Snetterton, you've already spotted that they corner a little slower, are more difficult to get on the gas and have slightly larger breaking distances.

Remember a stock R6 will circulate Snetterton in 1.12-13 probably something like 8-10 seconds a lap faster than a fast "inters" group.

By all means change, but dont expect to go much faster -- seems you may benefit from more track time/experience first.

Cheers

I think the GSXR750 is a great balance between 600 handling and 1000 performance.

Remmeber Snetterton is a serious HP circuit. I tracked it last year and the back straight is seriously long and really shows who has the grunt..

I think at Cadwell you may turn the cards on the R1's and ZX10's...

None I'm afraid. However, I might take a picture of the tyres...never seen so much "carnage" on the front.

I hear what you guys are saying, I really do. When I left Rockingham, I thought I was a natural. Left Snets and thought I was merely average!! I guess some types of tracks suit different bikes.

Still fancy the 750 though!!!!

I love snetterton cause i think its not too hard to learn but you can really push your bottle with some pretty fast bends.
At the end of the day if you get the stop-watch out you may not be hugely faster on the 750 than the R6 on all tracks but i think the extra grunt will make you mucho happy..
