Michelin to Recall Pilot Power 2CT and Pilot Power 120/70 ZR 17 Front Motorcycle Tyres
15/06/07

(STOKE-ON-TRENT – 15 June 2007) – Michelin has launched a campaign to recall its Pilot Power 2CT and Pilot Power 120/70 ZR 17 front motorcycle tyres with “Made in France” markings. An examination of these tyres showed a possible defect in the tread due to a manufacturing irregularity. No cases of pressure loss have been reported and no accidents have occurred.

Because customer safety is its primary concern, Michelin has decided as a precaution to replace certain 120/70 ZR 17 Michelin Pilot Power 2CT and Michelin Pilot Power front tyres, which can be identified by the following markings on the sidewall:

a “Made in France” label
DOT 6UCW 980T or DOT 6UCW 979T
These tyres will no longer be sold by dealers.

A special telephone number for consumers has been set up to provide customers with information about the campaign and will be operational on Monday 18 June from 8.30 a.m.

The telephone numbers are:

UK : 0800 454774
Republic of Ireland: 0044 (0)1782 401535

Yeah, this has been covered before.
Turns out my front is one of the ones. Michelin said they'd send me a letter and I've to take this to the dealer who will replace the tyre on the strength of the letter. A result really, cause after Snetterton the tyre is falling apart!

Make sure you ruin it good and proper first....then get a replacement. was told not to go to Snetts on it. But I had a good trip on it and my mate ruined it and it's fine. Ok the edges look like cooled down lave but it didn't go bang!!

I've just spoken with Michelin Technical. The letters they are sending to the people who have the affected 2CT's will have a reference number on them. The dealer/tyre place name you gave to Michelin when they took your details will contact you to arrange for the tyre to be changed. Apparently Michelin have given the dealer/tyre place a list of the pepole with the affected 2CT's, they will call you and you have to take the letter you received from Michelin so the reference number can be seen........

On Tuesday I was told that letters were going out recorded delivery and we will have them by the end of the week....hmmmm scratchchin I haven't had my letter yet and acccording to the Technical guy I spoke to the letters are imminent.....

I can understand that it must be a logistical nightmare for Michelin and it seems they are doing there best to resolve this problem...lets wait and see if anyone receives a letter or call from their nominated tyre place early next week.

I've waited or a week now, for their letter....and still nothing. Not good enough really, bearing in mind I ride for 65 miles a day.

Just spoke to Michelin AGAIN. They had no record of my previous enquiry, and say it may take up to 2 weeks to have the new tyre available....as they have run out.
I've also been told that I SHOULDN'T USE the bike. So who's gonna have to pay the £20 per day to get the feckin train? That'll be me then.

Jokers.

You've just ragged it round a track day against their advice I can't see as a bit of light commuting is going to it up further.

Possibly, but I could also argue that the track day has brought it to within an inch of failure....

...and they could easily argue that the problem is subsequently therefore yours as you ignored their advice.

Right. Getting confused now...but I'm still not gonna commute on it.

I alsothink it's a feckin liberty that I should have to pay £20 a day on the train cause they didn't quality control their product.

You're not paying 20 a day because they didn't quality control their product. You're paying 20 a day because despite knowing the state of play and being able to guess the subsequent supply problems you shafted your tyre on a track day. That was your choice and not their fault imo.

Rubbish. If they hadn't recalled their tyre due to a defective product, I'd be riding into work everyday. End of story.

Nothing to do with track days or the weather, it's because I have made a decision not to use it.
